| Speed Test thinks I have Java 1.1.4 (I have 1.4.2
This has been going on for quite a while, and I've just been using the non-java site.
I would like to resolve this if possible.
The java speed tests are just greyed out. The test above says I have 1.1.4, although in control panel, the version is 1.4.2_06 (same in the sys tray).
Looked in add/remove, and there is no 1.1.4 installed, just the 1.4.2_06.
Thank you in advance for your assistance. |

it could be that the speed tests aren't coded right to read what version you have. it could be that the version you have isn't identifying itself properly (highly doubtful). I would tend to think the applet isn't identifying you correctly. -- O! - H! ..... I! - O! |

I have exactly the same quirk on one PC at home. The weird thing is IE6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_2rtm.040803 correctly shows Java as v. 1.4.2_06, while the Advanced tab under Internet Options in the Settings area of the SBC Yahoo Browser Prod. v. 3.01.02.409, File v. 2003.10.31.08 actually shows Java v. 1.42_06, even though most of the speed testers say I'm running v.1.1.4 and the Java cups don't show/work on the speed tests(which makes me think GILXA1226 is on the right track). Another PC - same two browser versions, same exact Advanced, Firewall & Security settings - works perfectly on the Java 1.4.2_06 on either of them! Figure that out.
Oh well, I just use IE 6.0 for the speed tests. |

I looked in Internet Options and System Tools, and also see Java 2 v. 1.4.2_06.
1.1.4 is not in add/remove programs, so I don't know how to make it disappear.
A search in my 98se registry doesn't bring up 1.1.4, but it does bring up 1.4.2.
It's a mystery to me so far.
Thanks again for the replies. I'll keep looking and let you know what I find out, if you or someone else hasn't figured it out first. |

| reply to easonc I have the same problem and it seems it's a conflict between msjvm and Sun jvm. I do have version 1.4.2 but the one that actualy works is 1.1.4. This is the place where you can check which version is working on your pc: »www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp Does anybody have an idea how to troubleshoot this? Sergio |

You can have several versions installed on the system. It could be you need to change the runtime version in the Java Control. Check the Runtime settings and see which version is selected to use and change it to 1.4.2 if necessary.
I can't remember how older versions were handled by the installer but it seems to me you can just delete the 1.1.4 folder and be done with it. I would first check in the 1.1.4 directory and see if there is an un-installer though. -- Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness. . . in your internet options probably still have msjvm selected. in tools/options/advance uncheck msjvm and leave sun's java selected. |

I have experienced the same thing. When I installed 1.5.0_01 I made it the IE default JVM. It did looks like it was, cause if you check IE/advanced properties it is in place(checked) there. However, I soon found out the IE is still using MS JVM even if Sun's was made to. I was able to correct the behaviour by doing the following.
a. Open JAVA Control panel|advanced|tag support and uncheck internet explorer then click apply. b. Click general under temporary internet files, click delete files|apply|ok , close the JAVA CP. c. Follow a. except now check internet explore|apply|ok out. d. Test to sites if it now uses Sun's JRE. |
