The notification services as well as unlimited or multiple access will still be available as subscription services. Free credit reports were usually available on a "trial" subscription basis from various companies, but you would have to cancel within a short time.
Federal law used to require free reports only when you were declined credit based on information in an agency's report. The creditor was required to mail you a "dear John" notice with the addresses of the credit reporting agencies. Certain states required free reports, others limited the fee to various amounts between $ and $12. This new federal law requires free reports, once a year, to all consumers, from all three reporting agencies. |
