I also agree, the money shouldnt go to the labels at all, they usually pay the artists 2% or something, and keep the rest of the money!

nobody told U2 that if they didn't go to Virgin records, an executive would kill their families or something
record labels can make you famous--that is the dream, and it is a fact--publishing your own music and selling it at swap meets probably won't make you famous, but you keep what you earn for yourself
that said, i have no pity for the people who sell their souls to the record man |

Well that is one of the GOOD THINGS of Weed:
THE MONEY GOES DIRECTLY TO THE ARTISTS!
Weed only gets 15% for running the system and maintaining it.
Any artist can be his own distributor (ICP) and so earns 85% with each download/buy directly from his source (and always receives 50% whether it's shared 4 or 1.000 times!)
If he/she chooses someone to be his ICP to do all the webwork and host it, then the artist receives 50%.
35% is always split amongst the ones who pass the songs on and artists are fine with that.
DRM worse than spyware? There is NOTHING to be afraid of DRM. Oh an application on your pc? Well do you work in DOS? No, than why do you have other programs/applications on your pc? Yep to make life easier!
Crack it? Sure go ahead but than you rule yourself out tha game of earning some doe yourself huh?

Well you might call me ignorant that I misinterpret discussionboards as places where we can respectfully debate, share ideas/visions/humor etc. and hear eachothers experiences.
