Whilst the labels are putting the face and investment to promote the artist, they do not pay them well for it. It is to assume that the album will get the promotion and exposure to get the artists gigs. And that there is another issue as the artist will be going through a promoter that will charge him another percentage of the total ticket sales. And even that depends on the relationship he has with the "middlemen". Do the numbers....the multinationals are sucking the artists dry. Indies are fairing better. That is why RIAA places the blame on their slump in sales to P2P when in fact their product realls sucks and the indies are capitalizing on that hole.
