Crap!

Didn't we start he internet? I believe we did, and I also believe that US owned companies control the majority of the internet. So I honestly do not believe that the control should go to the UN ever.

As far as the pass ICANN, there's alot that can be improved. I think they can be a lil more harsh on violations, and should of canceled verisigns contract to be a root server as soon as sitefinder was launched.

It will only come down to one thing though, time. We will see who has the better package, but I do not wish to see the US lose control of the internet.

You can have the internet, we'll have everything listed on this page : -

Such a pointless post, why don't we compare apples to grapes, or chickens to goat. I notice the internet is not on that list, though I think some of the things ont he list are used more so then the internet, such as the Rubber Band. But again, has my country tried to tell your country how to run the rubberband factories?

Do try to remain civil, next thing you know you are going to be calling us "ugly Americans."

I dunno that it's so much that the US wants to control it.

I just think that we don't want the UN and its corruption using it as a cash cow.

I didn't say that, I was merely pointing out that the fact that he wants the UN to control the Internet.

I said that if UN wants to control the internet then he should think about other things such as what you said, elastic bands or toilet paper for example.
You cant have it always your way or always be boss.
That spoken, I have nothing against America just the fact that you want the internet to be controlled by the UN.
I am sure things have been originally made in Britain that have become a regularity to your life, We are going to control it now and you can have no say

Why don't you separate out the Scottish inventors from that list and see what remains?

Toilet paper was actually invented by an American. Look closer at the list and click on the inventor name. You'll see the correction/clarification and further information.

My mistake, I am sure there are other better examples.
Just understand my point of you claiming that 'the UN should control the Internet everywhere'
This is like saying it is OK for an original British invention company claiming all the similar companies in the US...

I think you mean to say, "that the *US* should control . . . "

I agree that the internet, tcp/ip, etc. is no longer a US invention (if it ever was an invention, per se. It was however developed by the US). I don't think the UN should control it though. I think a non-UN controlled consortium of the biggest internet using countries should be created. Each should have only a single vote--regardless of how many people or how much money that country spends. Something along those lines. It would somehow need to be depoliticised and not accept any type of special interest money.

Not an easy task.

I don't see the point of your post. It seems like just about everything the UN gets their hands on these days they just muck up.

Examples:
- Oil For Food Program
- Iraqi Weapons Inspections

Or even worse, they try to ram their ultra-liberal-left-wing viewpoint down the world's throat.

Examples:
- World Court
- World Handgun Control Program

The UN pretty much stands for Useless Nations as far as I'm concerned. It only creates a stage for wanna-be superpower nations to air their "grievances" against the United States, no matter how stupid, unjust, or ill-conceived they may be.

I would sooner see the Internet collapse than have the UN gain control over it.
