Verizon was stringing FIOS around my house today---Their trucks seem to be all over Westchester, Orange, Nassau, Suffolk etc----------I think my days with OOL are dwindling--- |

| Actually there is a staggered pricing structure--I am looking at 15kps down and 6kps up for about 50 bucks a month. By the way, you will have it in Central Suffolk by the beginning of next year. They have wired up or are wiring up much of Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk as we speak---Just go over to the Verizon forum and check it out. Verizon is about to make the game a lot more fun. |

| I posted on the VZ FIOS thread about the same question. Answer was that phone did not have to be on FIOS, but I guess VZ will still require you to have a POTS line in the first place. I would assume the phone plan would be a VoIP unlimited calling plan fixed price deal like all the others. |

| It's only competition when something else actually exists. Until then, it's just hopeful thinking.
Eventually, FIOS will start coming to OOL areas and in a few YEARS it might even come to all areas that OOL covers.
Once the technology is available to some, they might jump ship. It needs to cost less or provide more to get anyone, other then a pure CV hater, to leave. Assuming that's the case, CV will need to respond. Until then, they can sit tight. -- Tweaked your OOL connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

I am in a funny position having worked for Verizon and Cablevision, I have a bit of loyalty to both companies because I was treated very well by both of them when I worked for them. I find that the masses like to bash utility companies just because of their bigness and sometimes it is warranted but I have no complaints with either Verizon for my Pots and Cell service and with Cablevision for my cable and enabling my AT&T CallVantage VOIP line. |

| All of westchester should be WIRED by the end of the year. Verizon has been swarming my neighborhood for the last two weeks setting up Fios. Most of the techs I have asked have said that Fios should be turned on in some areas by the end of the year.
Personally, I think CV is fine. Only people who really care about speed will switch to verizon. CV has generated so many happy clients that many people will stick with them instead of going to the hassle and setting up verizon. -- Take me as I am |

Sure competition is wonderful when it's actual competition. There's currently no competition and that's the bottomline. CV will be on top of their game you can be assured of that, how else do you think OOL came about with better speeds. If they can stay ahead now, how can we assume they won't when supposibly this so called FIOS that's not even nowhere insight yet becomes avaialble. |

| reply to rextilleon Here's what might make some people switch
Verizon Fios 5M down / 2M up - $34.95 per month 15M/2M - $49.95 30M/5M - $199.95
All tiers are unlimited no bandwidth limits no capping, servers are allowed, installation is free and includes a free wireless router. Customers who want faster than DSL, faster upload than cable, but cheaper than Cable will go with 1st tier. Customers who want faster than Cable, no capping, and comparable pricing will go with 2nd tier. Customers who are either running a business or just insanely sick for speed and rich will go with 3rd tier. The advantage to FIOS is that VZ can stay one step ahead of CV, because FIOS currently supports 622Mbps d/l and 155Mbps upload, and it can get faster by simply changing the electronics in the backbone, the fiber itself has unlimited bandwidth. I think its only a matter of time (5-10 years) before CV follows suit and everybody is on fiber with 1GB downloads, 100 HD channels, unlimited GLOBAL calling all for $100/mo. Like someone else before said, competition is a good thing. |
