Re: Any EVDO users here?

Take the EV-DO 3.7 Mbps with a grain of salt. I assume that this is running compression of the data over the air (similar to dial up modems running v42.bis). Lets see a result from dslreports.com at 3.7Mbps!

Here's a little more technical insight to EV-DO and UMTS.

I would not trust this site... It claims to sell Verizon UMTS service. There is no such beast. 'Order Verizon UMTS wireless internet broadband access & UMTS-Coverage Booster'
'Sierra Airprime UMTS 5220 Broadband Aircard with Verizon Nationwide Broadband Access Service'

Not only do they have their products confused, but this could be seen as misleading/false advertising.

Just to clarify:
UMTSWorld does not sell anything, it just provides free info.
UMTSWorld does not claim that Verizon has UMTS service
Sierra Wireless / Airprime wireless card is listed as CDMA2000 device at »www.umtsworld.com/industry/3gphones.htm
or check the google »www.google.com/search?q=%22Sierr···5220%22&
Nobody claims that Sierra Airprime 5220 is UMTS device

Thanks

Just to clarify as well - I wasn't raving on the UMTS World site, but the site (listed in another page) listing the 3.7Mbps over EV-DO that was accessable, and Verizon sold
UMTS service...
This is the site not to trust (mostly for laughs)

We just got the Sierra Wireless 5220 card for EvDo and the older technology as well (1xRtt or something, sorry don't remember). It's $80/month, so not cheap, but necc for business.
Tested speeds at full reception are 3.3 Mbits, 1.6 Mbits, and 6.6 Mbits for the tests I ran one right after another. Just 2 bars reception still yields between 1.5 and 3 Mbits.
It does have something from Venturi Software that says it is used for compression. It was set to "best quality" not "fastest".
It is easy to use, you just have to have the Verizon software installed with it.
One caveat: On our laptop at least... Anytime the Verizon Connection software is run our wireless card (miniPCI 802.11b/g) MUST be turned off or the computer will reset. No blue screen, no warnings, just reset.
Haven't called tech support on it as my wife left out of town with the laptop and card on business trip.
