I have been having many problems regarding Java so I uninstalled and reinstalled it and when I started up my computer there was a .txt file with an error message in it. Does anybody know what this means?? Thanks! |

| reply to nickelman you might want to update yourself to either the newest release of the 1.4.2 client, or go to the latest 1.5.0 client... the client you are running has a pretty nasty bug in it that can allow buffer overflows to execute random code. -- O! - H! ..... I! - O! |

| reply to nickelman Sticking with 1.4.2. For now, though my critical updates are current SP2 is not something I want. But this may or may not help others......
Routinely keep both Java & ActiveX off until needed.
Note - The JDK has two version numbers -- external version number 5.0 and internal version number 1.5.0. This is where some folks run into trouble with versions. 7.1megs
Note - Trying to install the JDK on a non-supported version of Microsoft Windows or on a machine that doesn't have a sufficiently up-to-date Service Pack will cause the installer to generate this warning: "We recommend that you do not install this Java platform for the following reasons: This Java platform does not support the operating system or operating-system service pack on this machine."
