| West Coast New Edge Down (Speakeasy)
I have a Speakeasy T1 in Omaha, Nebraska - the loop transport is handled by New Edge. My circuit went out Nov 8 at 330pm Pacific and it is still down now (Nov 9 1153am Pacific). Speakeasy tells me it is New Edge's problem - some kind of internal software thing there. Not a happy camper here - I have work to do and 26k dialup isn't fun. |

@blarg.net | reply to omahajim On NEN SDSL, and ive been down also for about 24 hours. I forgot what they said but some software relating to the routers and what not failed and their backup failed at the same time so they have to rebuild it? Something like that... :P |

| reply to omahajim I should clarify. SE didn't explicitly pass the buck when I called; they say they are working "with" NEN to get the service restored ASAP. But SE's hands are tied if NEN failed in their contigency planning, and all SE can effectively do is to tell me to sit on my hands until NEN restores routing. My router is still trained and synced just fine... just no routing past NEN (so no browsing, email etc etc). Still down as of 439pm CT almost 24 hrs later like the other posters here.
Yeah, there's money to be refunded due to my SLA, but the TOS is worded in such a way that it probably won't be much. |

| reply to omahajim I have 9 circuits (7 SDSL and 2 IDSL) running over NEN in Oregon and California... at one point 6 of them were down last night (11/8/04). But orginally, 4 locations went down around 3:40pm PDT on Nov 8th. Currently, 3:20pm (11/9/04), all are up except 1 SDSL line. I called my provider, Megapath, and they said this.
--- From Megapath Technical Support Rep 11/9/04 ---
NEN had a software monitoring program which monitors all of the DSL switches across the country. The software crashed and it brought the switches down with them. At this point, 4-5 NEN technicians are going through each of the switches, region by region, and bouncing everyone to force a resync.
-----------------------------------------------------
They stated that (Megapath customers) we would back up by 4:30pm PDT. But, I'm not holding my breath.
Our SLA also offer compensation and I am going to request it.
Damn incompetent engineers who run NEN need some lessons in proper redundancy and catastrophic network failure recovery.

| We have been down in Sacramento for 24 hours now. The said around 7pm earlier for my area, its now 7:40pm. Their new updated recording states you should call in the morning if you still have problems. I have 3 circuits with New Edge. The contracts are up soon and with the problems I have had with them over the last couple years, they will not get any more of my business, even if it cost me more to avoid them. |

| Back up here after about 48 hours. I was one of the "lucky" ones that needed special attention. Rebooting the router didn't get it done so I elected to call in.
After about a 20 minute wait on the phone, a couple of mouse clicks and I was back up. Call me crazy, but my speed seems faster, and my pings are 10 ms less!
Maybe the network needed a good "cleansing"! |
