Some people will be scared off from VOIP because of poor uptime/911 issues, and others hate cable or phone so much they will go to the other no matter what. Either way looks like a win to consumers to me.
And of course, neither the comcast deal or SBCs deal will be available for everyone/everywhere, but it's a start. |

VOIP just isn't quite there for me.

He included Packet8. I'm not sure what their $20 plan is, but other VOIP providers at least do unlimited domestic calling at that rate.

That's because the telcos round up when they advertise their DSL product's connection speed.  Yah, I know, it's the PPoE overhead thing but with Comcast I actually get the advertised speeds, even during the Internet rush hour.

I wish they just buy out greene county cause they are taking forever to roll out cable internet. I've been on SBC DSL for about 4 years now but I would really love to have cable so I can finally ditch my POTS line. |

I've heard that Motorola and Nextel are developing a cell phone that will route calls through a wireless cable modem while in range and through the Nextel cellular network when away from home. I suspect that will pretty much be the final blow to POTS.
