Problems connecting to Citibank with Comcast

I have a problem connecting to my online account at citibank. I have teied to get this resolved with Citibank and Comcast. Usual problem each blames the other! At least (eventually) they admitted it is a known "issue". Does not help user like me however!

I run windows XP connect to the internet via a Netgear RT314 Router. That connects directly into the Comcast "cable modem".

Here is the problem; I can connect to any of hundreds of sites on the internet (even BofA online banking) with no problem. If I try to connect to »www.citibank.com/us/index.htm
I get there. But when I try to use the "sign on" tab, 90% of the time a get the "Page not found error" to the required URL. It is a real hit or miss affair. Sometimes it works on first try. Usually at quiet times in evenings.

I tried things like ipconfig /flushdns with no success.

Anybody else out there seen this and got a solution?

I use Citibank all the time and never had any problems. Have you tried bypassing the router and see if you can consistently connect? It might be an issue with your router.

Up until about a month ago I never had a problem. Over the last month I have had problems connecting to Citibank. I usually just re click on my link in favorites and am able to connect. A few times I have been unable to connect for a few hours. I have never complained to anyone. I just assumed it was a Citibank problem because I was able to access other sites.

Just fail to see why that could be a problem. I can connect up to any othe site you care to mention on the internet. Why would a dumb router like this block (from time to time) one ip address and at othe times let it through.

I've had the same problem, but also just thought it was a CitiBank problem.

We need to all send e-mail to Citibank/Comcast to clean up their acts. If more respond here I will organize a group e-mail to both.

I have the same set up, and all of a sudden about 1 month ago, I started having the same problem. In internet explorer, I had to put »https://web.da-us.citibank.com into my Trusted site list. Since then, it's worked 100% of the time. Hope that works for you, let us know!

How do you put something like
»https://web.da-us.citibank.com into a browser trusted site list.

To Dougrep. No I do not have Norton. I use Trend Micro's Internet Security ,but with the firewall off. I use the Windows XP SP2 firewall. But even with this off it makes no difference.

You don't say which browser you are using. If you are using IE to add this site to your trusted sites, on the menu bar click on tools...Internet Options...The Security Tab (2nd from the left)...then click on Trusted (with the green check mark) in the middle of the box click on Sites...when the next box opens ...in the field "Add this Web Site to this zone" and paste the url "https://web.da-us.citibank.com" into the field (without the quotes.) Make sure the check box for https is unchecked in case you have any non-secured URLs listed. Ok your way out and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the suggestion hberg. Tried that did nat make a bit of difference.
Something else strange. I cannot ping to www.citibank.com (it times out) yet with my IE browser I can always get to www.citibank.com where it comes back with a URL of www.citibank.com/us/index.html It's from there (that page) I get the problem of signing in. As others above seem also to have.

No problem, but i wasn't offering a suggestion you asked how to add it so i just typed it out.

I had no problem getting to the sign-in page but i stopped there since i don't have a Citibank account.

I had a few thoughts.

•It could be a DNS issue on Comcast's side. Do you use Comcast's DNS servers? If you do and need a list of other DNS servers to try just search this forum for DNS or i believe it is also now a FAQ.
•The secured site for Citibank is developed in JSP. It might be possible your browser or your firewall is blocking Session cookies, or just a setting in your browser preventing it to work. I would rule this possibility out since you said it is hit or miss working. That is why it leads me to believe it is a DNS issue.

I tried to ping Citibank.com as well and it timed out.

Interesting thread. We use COmcast at one of our stores and they have been having troubel over the past month settling their EDC batches through a secure citibank connection. Their servers are in Jacksonville, Fl and we were told by Citibank the problem was with the hurricanes knocking out power and the system running on generators.

What seemed odd to me is that none of the other stores were having a problem settling their Batches. It was just the one store on Comcast. Finally, after the power was back up and we were still having problems, the store mamger spent a couple of hours on the phone with Comcast and they fixed the problem. After seeing this thread, I called the store manager back and asked him what they did. They had him put the citibank links in his trusted zone in IE. The software we use is MS and it uses the IE setting for connections.

Makes me curious what this is all about.

I do not have any problems with CitiBank's web site. It works fine for me. I do however have a problem receiving emails from CitiBank through the COMCAST email servers. Their filters block their emails thinking it's SPAM. As soon as I turned the SPAM filters off, the emails make it through.

Same problem as users above. Adding to trused sites didn't work. I kept trying tonight and on the 10th try or so, I got to the login screen. After that success, I'm still unable to reach the login in subsequent attempts.

I think 'hbreg' is right. I manually entered the DNS server in another post, and viola, all works with Citibank.

Here was the post:
Nor Cal DNS server...
We also have a dns server in our Northern California (San Jose) datacenter. The IP for that server is 66.218.44.5. Clients in Northern California should use that server as their primary server.

I'm also having problems. When I cannot connect, I dropped to a command prompt and was not able to do a forward or reverse lookup on web.da-us.citibank.com . This is gettin REALLY frustrating.

I am also having problems. It didn't work for part of last week. Then it started working for a few days. So I tried resetting my security setting to medium from low, which was what Comcast had suggested. All of a sudden, it stopped working again.

Naturally, neither Citibank nor Comcast can help. Comcast does not have a clue about it. At least Citibank was aware of a problem that Comcast and Adelphia customers are apparently having.

This does not sound like a Comcast issue, nor a DNS issue. It sounds like a browser setting/active webpage issue of some kind. Have you tried contacting Citibank support?

It doesn't sound like a DNS issue, because you're connecting without issue to the Citibank website. Check that you can connect without issue to the »https://web.da-us.citibank.com/cgi-bin/c···ogin.jsp
web page. (web.da-us.citibank.com) is the website I was directed to when selecting the "log in" link from the Citibank main page. If that site loads up, w/o fail, it's not DNS.
If your router/connection is working w/all other browsing activity, then it's also not some kind of router issue.

It really just smells an awful lot like a browser setting problem, or poorly tested/written code.

I hope this will help you. This is only if you are using ie v 6.0.

1. click to highlight 'trusted sites'.
2. click to 'default level' (low).
3. click to 'sites'.
4. make sure there is a check mark in box, where it states,'require service verification (»https://:) for all sites in this zone.
5. add
6. ok
7. apply
8. ok
