Why? You have a problem that needs to be fixed with a firmware update?

What does your callforwarding do? Mine works fine.

The only thing I know for sure is that the next firmware will have a fix for the date on the call logs in the DTA. Right now it's a month off.

The calls from my area code are not forwarded (unless I block the caller ID on my homephone number and then the outgoing call will have my homephone caller ID on all the calls - so I prefer to don't do that)....I know that does not make any sense, but the support team knows about and will fix it in the 13XX FW.

Any chance we'll see caller id name any time soon? It's causing me to seriously consider Broadvoice.

I haven't heard a date but they are planning to add name to caller id. According to Packet8 Support, they are waiting for Level3 communications to do some upgrading on their system to allow it. Right now they do have caller ID with name but only for calls from FWD.

Been using P8 for about 2 months now... few complaints.. but the big thing for me is the name caller ID... I simply can't memorize everyone's number...

AT&T uses Level3 for their incoming DID's in my area and they provide name caller ID just fine. Think about how caller ID name works and you'll start wondering why they have to wait on Level3.

I just purchased a couple of Panasonic KX-TG5240M which has caller announce (reads the name of the caller out loud) except that Packet8 only sends the phone number so I get to listen to "Call from one six one five four one four nine..."

I talked to support and got the same answer: They're working on it and have no ETA as to when they will have names included with caller id.

I started looking at Vonage but don't want to pay extra just for that. Time to check out Broadvoice.

I just talked to Broadvoice to see what they had to say about their caller id service. He was very quick to point out that often, even though they provide names with caller id, the associated name might not be in the database. I'm curious if he's talking about the same database as the local phone company uses (ie. normal caller id functionality) or if this is another database which might have less extensive lookups.

My concern is that I would go to all the trouble of switching from Packet8 to BroadVoice only to find out that their caller id doesn't show the name half the time either. For instance, if they tend to have problems with caller id from cell phones then that would rule out half the people who call me since everyone around here has cell phones.

Anybody out there have broadvoice and use the caller id feature? I'd love to hear some feedback.

Hi Gaines,
Don't Panasonic cordless phone has a feature whereby if the phone number existed in the phone directory of the cordless phone, it will show up on the LCD screen?? At least that is how it work in my KX-TG2237...

I have a BroadVoice line and I would say the CallerID Name function works about 60% of the time. I haven't found any pattern as sometimes it fails on mobile calls and sometimes landlines. I don't think it's quite there yet.

dreamer101, you would think so, but I tried multiple times adding the phone number that showed up in CID to the phonebook on the phone with a name, but it wouldn't use the phonebook entry. I chatted with a couple other users of this phone and they said that they didn't think it uses the phonebook.

I am actually checking out Broadvox. Apparently they have a phone book feature in their online portal where you can set up entries for people which are then used for caller id. This means that, no matter what the phone company provides, as long as I get a phone number I can assign a name to them. That's quite nifty. They also have a ton of other really great features. You can check it out a summary of the featuers at »www.phoneboy.com/bin/view.pl/Voi···oxDirect

So is there any reason not to go with Broadvox? It's also $20/month for unlimted nationwide and I haven't noticed a feature that any other provider offers which they do not.

Hi,
It works but the procedure to save phone number to directory is kind of twisted. You have to save the number to directory. Then the number and name of the number will be the same. You have to go to directory and edit the name of the directory entry to be something other than the phone number.
