I personally think it's pretty sad. I know alot of people, including myself, that got their starts in the tech field through a support job. With the oh so famous catch 22, "You need experience to get a job, but need a job to get experience.", it's mostly support jobs that give entry level experience. I guess it's just one of the downsides of capitalist societies.

The numbers quoted reflect the downturn in outbound call centers, not inbound. There will always be a need for inbound customer support.
