What kind of pings are you getting with your new fiber install? I'm incredibly jealous, as is everyone, because we are the unfortunate 99% that can't get FIOS

I wonder why long it will stay at 14Mbps. Do they really have the network to handle everyone at that speed? I doubt it.

Obviously they aren't going to be buying 1:1 bandwidth for all of their customers and selling it as cheap as they are, so not everyone can get 15Mbps at the exact same time.

This is how the telco model has been for decades. Just like they don't expect everyone to pick up the phone at the exact same time, they don't expect everyone to use all the bandwidth at the same time.

If there is any provider out there that has 1:1 bandwidth for all of its customers, you're looking at a soon to be dead provider, if it's not already.

Are you going to write an ISP review for Verizon FIOS?

Look, it isn't all good. It is hell trying to find a decent speed test site that will give me accurate results!!!:D

The "trial" period means that the service is at a reduced cost and that I am required to return the surveys. They have also given the a dedicated tech support person who called me immediately after install and gave me her extension.

I talked to her and the installers and everyone seems to be on the same page when I ask what I am a limited to. They say that there are no limitations on the line. I can run whatever services I want off of it. I don't know if that actually is true or not, the TOS booklet they gave was monstrous. I am not going to read that damn thing unless aliens come down from the sky, and I have to lock myself in the closet.

seriously, can't they start the FIOS stuff in some big metropolitan like LA and more specifically 90027 of LA? And don't give me that crap about digging up crowded streets... I'm the only one who matters!

Awesome man! That is some serious speed, finally Verizon has beat my Optimum Online connection and for a cheaper price!

I can't wait for the fiber to be lit here in Bergen County, then hopefully they'll extend the network 3 miles to me and I'll be a happy man.

Once FTTH/FTTP is common, it'll cause a revolution on the internet and bandwidth will become as cheap as water. We'll be able to have 100mbit lines from Verizon I expect within a few years. Also all the servers out there that limit speeds to say 1mbit because most visitors are dialup users will now upgrade to allow fiber optic home users. Right now, it's not widespread, but a few years from now this will happen. Don't forget broadband is now the majority in this country. But there is Dialup, Broadband and "REAL" Broadband (FTTH/FTTP).

I'm so happy for you! Have fun with your fiber line! Our dreams are becoming a reality! Regular average Joe's are getting fiber to the home/premise!

Re: My FIOS install

Wow. Awesome, great for you, man! Enjoy it and abuse it as much as possible
To the trolls: Go away, obviously Verizon IS building this network and your whining about Pennsylvania isn't gonna make a difference.
I really really hope the reports of deployment coming to Westchester Co, NY by 2005 are true.
