What model is that APC unit on the wall? Is it a battery or just a cable management piece. I could not make out the model from the photo.

Thanks,

Hey ... Just as (Woof-Woof) stated the Power supply is an APC special product , it's very similar to the one Comcast uses for there Digital Phone Service , it's called an LPSU (Line Power Supply Unit Model#AN15U48D) enlosed is a few pics , the unit has the ability to report any voltage issues , increase or decrease voltage for ONT, and if the back-up battery (which kicks in when AC power is not present and the ONT goes to a safe mode of only allowing POTS service until AC power is restored)is not taking a charge or dead , all this information is sent back through the ONT's maintenance PLOAM packets back to the NOC. Enclosed is a pic of the familiar AFC ONT 610 for Single Family homes , and the 620 for MDU/MTU properties. Just as a heads up for these properties your properties existing inside building cable infrastructure will be used. Either the AFC 620/640 will be deployed in your basement and all services will then be cross connected to the existing infrastructure. There will be some experiments taking place on some buildings , as we no FTTP is based on PON (Passive Optical Network) format which can be at its highest of 1x32 , so this will be played on in some buildings (New Construction). If your one of the properties that has a crappy infrastructure now , you maybe lucky in getting Verizon to install a new or add what maybe needed without any costs being transferred over to the buidling property. In the urban areas it will be interesting to see what can be agreed as we all will see if the FCC truly allows no other CLEC's to ride over the same Verizon fiber installation. If not dont expect VZ to rush to update your infrastructure in the MDU/MTU market ... we shall see ...

Oh and i thought i was slick with my dual 6016/608 lines..at $45 each---- you are pimp.

You could supply your neighbors with wifi and pay what i can only imagine is a monster of a bill.

Edit: I just read where it was only $50 a month in one post.. omg .. i hate you now as well.

Don't hate the player, Hate the game.

The service has been ouststanding. For losing the service all of two hours, they have given a month's free service in return. That little hiccup was far superior to what Charter was ever able to offer me.

My pings are good and my speeeds are always there. This has been a great experience so far.

I for the most part agree. Verizon was one of the laggin ISP's in speed, but now they have come to what I believe is the best isp in the USA.

The network will handle this speed because it's fiber from the home to the central office. From the CO, it hooks directly into the internet. The only place to slow it down is the server that they would be accessing. I have been teaching FTTP for over 2 years for Verizon. My training center is training all of the techs that are installing the service in Texas. The customers are amazed at what they get when we are done with the install and all for $39.95 a month for 5M download and 2M upload. They can get 15M and 3M for $49.95 and if they are really hardcore into gaming, 30M and 5M for $199.95 per month. Wait until video is available!!! Coming soon to your neighborhood if you are a Verizon customer.

soon is such a subjective word. if VZ does what it is known to do, I will be the last place off my CO to be upgraded.

So I have a few years before im willing to get all hyped up about this new VZ offerings comming.

How does one go around being a beta tester, I wouldn't mind being one when they come to NYC. The Bronx to be more specific.

Glad to see you had good luck on the install. They will be at my house tomorrow. I do not know anyone on my street that has not signed up. I signed up over a month ago and I am gonna settle for the 15Mbts that should suit my needs for a while. ;>) I will keep you posted, even though I am not a reg here.

56k to FIOS!!! That's like going from a stroll in the park to Mach 6!!! Lucky devil, here in Bellsouth country I can get no better than 28 kb/sec, and that's on a good day:(

So who is the current video content supplier to you folks in the surrounding Dallas suburbs? With video headends now going in and the company saying video will be offered by the first half of '05, I'll bet the competition is shaking in their boots. The FIOS bundle will be the best value by far. Talk about "disruptive technology"!!! I can imagine a mass exodus to FIOS in some markets as the technology becomes available. Initially the Cables will probably slash prices drasticly in those markets, but then they'll have to juice up their plant in order to compete. How ironic!

Talking about slashing prices...

Here in Keller I got a letter a couple days back from OneSource, my former Cable and Internet provider. They are cutting prices on their internet packages and going from $50 for 1.5M/128K to $40 for 10M/768K. Problem is, they didn't have the backend to support 1.5M!

Competition is a healthy thing! Can't be long before Comcast follows suit.

The pricing stuff is interesting. More interesting yet, is that Verizon is apparently letting them resell over fiber, which they are not forced to share!!

I got the same letter today, the day of my install...What irony for them...All I can say is goodbye..

Have not got to spend much time on FIOS yet, but they did check my speeds and it is as advertised...MACH 6 and better..just shy of 15/2

I downloaded some songs for my daughter, about 40min worth of music in about 3min.

The install was about 90min from the time the VZ truck pulled up to the time of my first download.

RE: the video, the install tech says that DIRECTV will be online the first of 2005. I cant wait, I have DIRECTV now but the wether is sometimes a factor. My area was a "Pegasus" area but they have already met their demise selling DIRECTV. Things just keep getting better.

The tech also in our conversation they had done a test on some sections of the fiber the get ready for the HD DIRECTV launch and the results....an astounding 5.5Gps, yep GIGS per sec.

He indicated the glass is only limited at this time by the boxes. As the tech. advances so will the speed.

Now, time to get me a gaming computer..and find a good server..got to do some killin' online...;>)

You are telling me they will be offering DirecTV over Fiber? How will this work? Will Verizon get a downlink from all D* and then feed it over there fiber network to customers?

most cable tv companies already buy content from direct tv and resell it. most people do not know that. its just the content they purchase.
