Consider me a little birdie. I've been told effective Sept 1 all areas will have the speed being seen in Covington. 4Mbps down and 256kpbs up. |

| reply to Concerned Bystander This information had been passed on before. I'll believe it when I see it. And honestly this "upgrade" isn't much considering what other providers have upgraded to in the past month.
There is also no information on what current 3000/384 customers will see in terms of price and speeds. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

| reply to rivfan22 It should involve everyone. This has been rumored to be in the works for a bit now. A few past threads - those specifically dealing with Kentucky and Comcast taking over managed areas - gave us a hint of this.
There maybe some information coming about later on. In regards to 3000/384 users. I think they may get the short end of the stick for a few months though.
Previous threads that hinted towards this
»Insight says NO to Lexington, KY speed upgrades!
»Just got an email about the Comcast takeover
»Rumor or Not: Comccast taking majority control...
Hopefully my original tone in my first post won't be taken to harshly. I appreciate anyone willing to share information in the forum. It's just confirming what we had an idea was in the works.
From what I'm seeing Insight and Comcast will now be lagging behind. Insight used to set the standard and raise the bar. In regards to download speed. They have since lost that edge.
Even SBC gives 6000/768 to some users for less than Insight charges for 3000/384. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

| To be quite honest, I'll be perfectly happy with 4000/256 at my current rate I'm paying for 3000/128. Would I like more, sure, but this would satisfy my needs. I couldn't justify doing the 3000/384 anymore, price was outrageous. Since dropping I can't tell a difference in my call quality using VOiP one bit. I don't do much downloading however. I do play alot of multiplayer games on XBOX however and my phone works fine while doing so. Bring on the upgrade and I'll be happy. |

| I can't be happy when I know others in the industry are offering more for less. Just not logical to be all happy. When your provider isn't even matching what is now any industry standard. Everyone loved how Insight stayed at 3000 when all other providers went to 1500. What Insight and Comcast are now proposing to offer ( Comcast does offer actually ) is similar to that situation years ago. Yes things change - but users who remember the good ole @Home days - for some of us we got in to late to enjoy the wild west days of @Home - we got in when @Home went speed cap happy - but the users who got it in the beginning - they know how bad there getting hosed down now.
That said. If rumors of the past few months hold true. 3000/384 users may see something nice for there money down the road. Information seems to be consistent. So I'd say there must be truth to what I posted a few months back. It now seems we may have to wait longer though. And pay a lot extra for only 128 extra up - for a few months. This just shows someone on Insights end doesn't think to hard. When making decisions. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

1 edit | i have to agree with iggy but not to sound too jaded i've been payin $70/ Month for 3000/384. I like that they are upgrading their basic tier but what about the group who pay 35 bucks more...... hopefully we will be bumped to 4000/768 on sept 1st. What? can't i dream.... |

| I'd like to 768 on the up. That would at least match what SBC offers to some users on the high end. If the rumor mill is true. We may see more on the down side. Upload won't hit near the 768 though. We also may have to wait longer to see an upgrade. Thus my comment above. If standard users get an upgrade to 4000/256. But us 3000/384 package users have to still pay what we pay for 3000/384. We are being taken for an even bigger ride than we are now. Instead of paying a premium for only 256 up - we would be doing so for only 128 up extra.
These numbers were given to me earlier this year.
5000/1000, 3000/512, 3000/384
With mention of business packages being offered. We have seen the business package rumor confirmed by multiple sources. So I'd count that as true. We've seen the 4000/256 and a pretty solid date - confirmed in this forum by several sources. So I'd put truth in that as well.
From what I've seen recently. I think 6000/512 might be what we see on the high end. Which would meet some other providers in the US high end. And coming close to others. No one has yet to match OOL though. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

I live in the city of Shively in Louisville, Ky. Last night (8/19/04) at approximately 12:30 A.M. I called Insight Broadband tech support to ask about a possible buyout of Insight by Comcast.
What the tech said was this: "No. Insight is not being bought out. But come September their will be a change in Internet service." When I asked whether or not the change would affect speeds he said he couldn't tell me. But when I told him me and my buddies at work have been complaining about the slow upload speeds affecting Xbox Live gaming performance, he said that next month I would "not be disappointed."
I don't remember the tech's name but he said he couldn't say more. Before I ended the call I told him that I was going to start spreading rumors. He told me to go ahead.:D
You may call me a liar, but after regretting choosing Insight's broadband over BellSouth's DSL (especially after upload went to 256Kbps) I finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel and cannot WAIT to play Halo 2 online in November.
Even an upload of 256Kbps would be enough for online gaming. They could even keep the option for the 384 upload upgrade available for those who want to host games, or increase that option to 512kbps so that people can run some SERIOUS servers. The download is good enough, lets keep our eyes on the ball about the upload. Replies are appreciated, thank you.:) |

All I can say is - frustration. Insight reads comments like the two made above. And then feels the majority of customers are happy. So they then feel no need to invest in upgrades and equipment to provide higher speeds and lower ping times. The only reason they may make a move now. Is they have competition making moves. Which means losing market share if they don't do the same.
The stupid Insight sticker on the front page of my paper the other day. Makes me think they are feeling heat from SBC in my area.
Don't take this as a personal attack. It's not meant as one. Is just frustrating when users aren't aware of the limitations of the current speeds. Especially upload. And yes I can put more download speed to use. And it helps out with VOIP, streaming audio and video, online audio chat etc. Even if I had no use for the speed. It's the principal of the matter. Other providers are providing these speeds. Insight should as well. It's long overdue. There is no technical reason they can't provide such speed. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

4 edits | We didn't get a rip. But it did transfer ink to the sticky backing. There was another company that did the same thing the next day. Hope it's not going to be a new advertising trend.
The deal isn't that great either. Some ISP are doing $19.95 for 6 months. When we signed up for @Home years ago. We got $19.95 for 3 months. Insight is now only giving you 2.
Yes I'm picky like that. Maybe I should go take a nap. lol.:D

You do realize there was another thread about that company on this site. I think it was in the security forum. Let me go find it.
