| reply to genobkk36 Re: Vonage suspends my account
Can anyone here spell correctly or exhibit proper use of the English language? I wonder. Good Grief. No wonder they shut people off who don't know how to communicate what their problem is to whichever company they have a beef with. Perhaps the complainants have never run a business, nor been in charge of anything, or ever had to pay a bill on their own? Good Grief. |

Government will use all profits. Competition exists, and it will regulate.
Vonage will always make right honest mistakes from what I've seen of people getting cut off for suspected misuse.
Many companies here have made billing/account errors. -- Jim -- USA2K ... VoIP on FWD, Vonage 01-28-03, & BroadVoxDirect 07-05-04 SEE: »www.usa2k.net | »dcwu.org | »Team Helix | »Distributed Computing | FAH |

The inability to use proper spelling and grammar of the English language is just a good example of the quality of education that is provided here in the US.
I am sure this inability to properly command the English language is one reason so many people have trouble with service providers such as Vonage simply for the fact that it seems they DO NOT READ nor COMPREHEND the TOS that they agree to.
Vonage, like many service providers bill for services in advance, so if you fail to pay as agreed they can terminate your service until you have paid for the up coming billing period. Vonage clearly states that if your payment request is not accepted by your credit/debit card provider then they will block your service until said payment can be made.
I am all for this practice by Vonage and other VoIP providers since it will reduce the amount of delinquent subscribers who in the long run force companies to raise their rates to make up for these losses.
As for having the government become involved especially with regulating services such as VoIP is simply a call from those who are too lazy to resolve the matters themselves or wish to go through life playing the poor victim.
Like Sly I am not trying to flame anyone here, simply would like to have people realize certain facts before they make hasty comments or suggestions. |

Personally, I have to agree that there are consequences to a bill not being paid on time, and this is something a customer should be prepared for. As a business owner, I know I do not like having to wait to be paid what I am owed! Why I find this application of the Vonage payment policy to be severe, they are within their rights to do so. I, for one, would not choose to do business with a service provider that suspended service so quickly.
At the same time, while I so not agree with the original poster as to encouraging government involvement and faulting Vonage 100% for the problem, I think that responding with a negative tone and apparently intending to flaunt a level of savvy above that of others posting their views is not particularly helpful. I think that most people write their posts fairly quickly and probably do not carefully select their wording or spelling. That is fine by me, as long as I can undertand what they are trying to say. I also think that this site receives a lot of traffic from nonnative English speakers (I know members of my family do), and I am unaware of any policy that prohibits them from posting.
I am sure I have made one or more errors in this post (it is much longer than I intended), but I just wanted to alert you to the fact that it is incorrect syntax in English to end a sentence with a preposition. Of course, I do not have a problem with that because I still understood your post. |

I really doubt this to be typical of Vonage. There is likely more to the story, or a unusual error. ( »Vonage NOT working $0-60 min on HOLD!!!! ) -- Jim -- USA2K ... Perhaps the original poster's first language isn't English, in which case I'd say he's done quite a good job of learning a second language. On the other hand, if English is his first language, I agree with subsequent posters about this being indicative of the quality (or lack thereof) of the educational system.
However, forum members might also want to keep in mind that not everybody in this forum is an American or is posting from the U.S. (including me). There should at least be a modicum of tolerance for those who are trying to communicate in what, for them, is a foreign language.
As for the substance of the post: Why would a business continue to provide service to someone who doesn't pay? I can understand Vonage's position, particularly when they're probably faced with this issue many, many times each day. |

You are absolutely correct. This is something I am always correcting my children for. (Just kidding you.) |
