Backup in 704-I also read that Broadvox and Voicepulse were down at the same time as vonage.-Interesting

Now I get "we're sorry - you have reached a number that is disconnected or no longer in service" when calling my Vonage number from PSTN.

I rather suspect the problem is with the service provider who handles the connection with the PSTN in various areas; with so many IP calls failing to go out, that probably also disrupted Vonage's own systems. Seeing that this problem happens on the first working day of the month, maybe it is a billing problem between Vonage and that provider?

Anyway, I'm glad I still have my PSTN

I can now call out, but with bad sound quality (high pitch buzz, distortion on word endings). I guess this is progress...

Things appear back to normal with my Vonage service.

One has to wonder at how quickly things break down, and how quickly word gets around, and how quickly things get fixed and explanations are provided (see link to zdnet article, above). It makes it hard to then turn around and confront the usual bureaucracies that rule our lives, and their glacial pace.

We've been up for an hour or two now. 815 area code. Call quality is fine. Just called Comcast and talked with a rep for 15 minutes (unrelated matter) and it was like she was next door. Actually she is in Ft. Myers Florida, and we are in Denmark.

I had solid light, dial-tone, but calls (including *123) got fast busy. Power-cycled MTA and working now.

Dear Vonage Customers:
Today at 10.45 AM EDT Global Crossing, one of Vonage's IP providers, experienced a data routing issue which effected the Vonage network. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and our engineers are working diligently to ensure that this does not happen again.

The issue was isolated to Global Crossing's routing tables, which prohibited Vonage data traffic from getting to its proper destination. During the outage, many of the systems failed over to alternate routes, enabling the Vonage network as a whole to send and recieve calls, however individual cutsomers' success of making and recieving calls remained sporadic depending on where a particular customer was located on the Internet. The systems which were effected during the outage were: voicemail, voicemail email notification, vonage web login and network availability number. Network availability number did not work becase the inbound traffic from the phone network was being routed to the wrong place by Global Crossing. The problem was resolved around 12.15 PM EDT today and has remained stable since then.

Again, we apologize for any problem this may have caused you and we are working closely with Global Crossing to ensure it does not happen again.
Thank you for your business and we look forward to serving you better in the future.
Sincerely,
Vonage Management

Re: [Vonage] Vonage + website down

Vonage is incompetent. If you are considering Vonage, pleae think again.

This happens way too much. There website is so slow that it is useless. You will be able to forward your number at 6:00am est but not unforward it at 5:00pm because they dont have enough bandwidth.

vonage really should be using multiple isps instead of a single crappy one (WCG - Wiltel). Appears parts of the wcg network is having issues so vonage is down for a majority of the users.

They're multihomed with Level3 and Globalcrossing as well.

This is why VoIP is a long ways from replacing landlines, even cell phones are more reliable. Isn't their any kind of oversight of these companies like with the bells? Man, if landline service went out often and affected so many like VoIP, you'd have the authorities on them pretty quick.
