[News] DVR output to PC via digital?

Hey there,

Ran across this forum doing a search on the Motorola DVR unit I got from Insight. I've run into many of the same issues as others here. I'd like to know if it's possible to output from the DVR unit to my PC for recorded programs? I noticed there are USB and firewire (and an ethernet cxn if I'm not mistaken) in the back. I'd like to be able to transfer the programs to my PC, edit commercials and then burn off on my DVD burner (as an alternative to VCR). Any ideas if this is possible? Thanks,

Mix

Looks like the long and short of it is either I violate some law (possibly) by hacking the box, or wait around until it becomes enabled. Yippee. Ah well, if someone's tried it send me an email, I'd be curious to hear how it turned out.

Not at all! You must use firewire though. Its easy with a Mac! There is some software to record the digital stream that is available on the mac. When I checked it out, I got tons of corruption on my picture but it worked. I dont know if it was the program I used to play it back or what but others have had better luck than me.

Don't fret if you use Windows XP. There is a program that allows the same thing, though last time I checked the beta was closed. I would think there have been updates since then though. Here is a thread on the AVS forums about it: »www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre···d=403695 . Search around there to find out more about recording HDTV from firewire to a computer!
