[1500/256 Service]
Ever since the Meriden scheduled maintenance in ~April (?) and the major CT outage fiasco my speeds have gone from consistent 1280-1300/219 to consistent ~1140/210. If I reboot my modem/router I'll get ~1200/210 for a day or two then it goes back to ~1140/210. This happens on two PCs that have had nothing changed (both PCs already tweaked in our Broadband Tweaks Forum).
Line packet loss tests for both PCs are always very good: Typical: »/quality/nil/1411402
And to be consistent, I always do my speed tests in the early AM at one server...the SBC NY, NY server: [ »speedtest-nycmny.nycmny.sbcgloba···ge2.html ] |

1 edit | This morning at 5:30AM mine was ~1010/210 for three speed tests at SBC Yahoo NY, NY. Rebooted the modem and it went back to ~1150/210....still 150k down from what I used to get.
My guess is SBC is *borrowing* bandwidth from us to supplement new accounts that their infrastructure equipment really can't handle. After-all, there's no guarantee of the bandwidth we buy. Anything between 384 and 1500 meets their *legal* obligation.
Do the math...when SBC takes 150K from each subscriber, that a lot of bandwidth for new customers without having to buy any new hardware at their COs. Another reason to switch to cable. |

Rebooting the modem got my *~1150/210* (problem) speed back (if you reread my posts). Not the 1300/219 that I used to have.
And I stand by my statement of SBC *borrowing* bandwidth from customers to accomodate new bandwidth requirements for new customers that they can't support. Look at my line tests, they're close to perfect and always have been that way. |

Yeh, but its anoying as hell when you used to get the max speed (1300/219) for 6 months.:(
I guess the *new* DSL/TCP-IP overhead is now 30%:(
[So lets see, where did I put that Charter phone number...] |

Yo SBC Folks Working the Forum,
How do we tell if we're on a redback or bras? Both DSL_Steve and I (along with others) have been b*tching about the same thing since the Meridan outage. Maybe a switch was made and that's the cause??
I know we all have a tendancy to go on about stuff, Lord knows I do, but this speed stuff is getting old. Either we're not going to get the speed back that we saw CONSISTANTLY, or there's a problem that needs to be resolved to get it back. Either way, someone from SBC really needs to say one way or the other.
If the folks working the forum from SBC aren't at liberty to say or don't know what to say, all well and good. Who can say? Evidently, if folks call into the tech support number, as long as you're getting 384, no one does care. I have seen other threads in other forums where folks are talking about the same thing. Everyone can't be reading line tests wrong, everyone can't be having hardware problems in or outside the house.
This kind of stuff might not lose customers right away but it will in the long run. There are two reasons I haven't switched from SBC: 1) contract issues and 2) no viable alternative.
O. Ya'll are lucky Im in a good mood. |
