[Equipment] Sveasoft Bandwidth Management Problem

Basically after enabling bandwidth managment, my bandwidth is cut in half. I have 3000/256 and have 2800/228 set in the bandwidth management section with one ip in the low priority secion( 192.168.0.100/32 )

I am getting around 1450 down and 112 up on my bandwidth test on any computer. If I disable bandwidth management, everything is fine.

Re: [Equipment] Sveasoft Bandwidth Management Prob

What firmware version are you running? The low priority IPs were broken in some of the versions.

Pre3-10

That's just it. Even on computers that I haven't put in low priority are returning low bandwidth speed test results.

This is a well known problem with Sveasoft Satori firmware.

It cost me $20 to get the latest Satori firmware [which cut my uploads] and to have access to the Customer forum on the Sveasoft boards to learn others have this issue.

I was talked into using this firmware for the QoS issues, but the drop in upload is something I cannot live with.

I no longer use the Sveasoft firmware and I am $20 lighter.

Now, supposedly, the Alchemy release will "hopefully" address this issue - but don't hold your breath.

I have noticed that I double and switch the uplink and downlink values and check the Lan & wLan button... everything works.

I have 6144 uplink and 512 downlink for my 3072/256 service.

Is everything working, or are you doing any type of bandwidth management?

Some people have this problem and some don't. The ones that do seem far and few between. Several of them have actually reported the problem was fixed in Pre3.10.

I run a 3000/256 connection and have mine set to 2800/235 and it doesn't cut my uploads in half.

Doesn't cut your uploads in half.... what about downloads?
I can just enable bandwidth managment and not put anything in the either the low priority netmasks or port sections and my bandwidth is cut, even if I unplug my vonage adapter.

The download is not cut in half either. You do sacrifice a little bandwidth(15% or so?) for the wshaper script but it far out weighs the choppy voice problem. The running back to the PC to stop a download/upload when someone wants to use the phone gets old real quick....almost sounds like dialup!

Digiblur -

You are such a shill for Sveasoft firmware and you are also listed as a Mod on the Sveasoft site.

Do you get a cut of the $20 subscriber fee?

senatedon, do you get any cuts from Bush?

I don't see a problem with this. If it wasn't for all his time and research posted in this forum, most of us would still be having crappy quality phone calls.

I for one thank Digiblur!

Re: [Equipment] Sveasoft Bandwidth Management Problem

Sveasoft has worked great for me. I would estimate that I've seen a 10%-15% reduction in bandwidth, which ensures that my VOIP gets top priority.

Here is what I posted on the Sveasoft forum with regard to my configuration.

-----------------

Satori-Pre3.4 is working great in my network to resolve VOIP QOS issues.

The only issue I have with 3.4 is that if I have more than one static IP assigned, the Status-->Local Network-->DHCP Clients table doesn't work. This is not much of an issue for me since I've configured as follows so that I only require 1 static IP assignment:

WRT54G 192.168.1.1 (default IP assignment)
VOIP ATA 192.168.1.2 (static DHCP allocation)
DHCP starting IP address 192.168.1.128
Low priority source/dest netmask 192.168.1.128/25

Since moving to this configuration, my ATA has worked consistently well regardless of how much traffic I have going on the PCs in my home network. Before going to this configuration, I would get choppy calls when I was using the Internet for large uploads (and sometimes downloads) from various PCs.

I'm in no hurry to move to latest Satori, since I have had zero problems with 3.4.

My biggest problem is that bandwidth is reduced by half, even for computers that I haven't assigned as a low priority device.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did.
I got one nice big rebate check in the summer of 2001 and another fat rebate check last year. Plus W. reduced my tax bracket, increased my per child credit and reduced my marriage penalty.

Yes, I got cuts from Bush.

FYI, this was resolved back in Pre3.8 I think.

I wasn't talking about those kind of cuts but that's beside the point.

I will look past the issue of the direct flame towards me and still offer the "helping hand" to you. I will attempt help anyone that has any issues with the Sveasoft firmware. I have not been paid one cent from Sveasoft nor have I requested any funds from Sveasoft. I even donated money to Sveasoft before the subscription model was thought of. I do this simply to help others enjoy the same clear phone calls that I enjoy. I have even done so much as helping others on the phone and through instant messaging programs. With that said I will move on...

To anyone using the IP netmasks I highly recommend you upgrade to Satori Pre3.10. The issues of the IP netmasks going into the 1:20 queue and not the 1:30 queue has been resolved. Basically in a nutshell, it now works like it's supposed to. The issues with PPPOE DSL connections have also been resolved. I have not personally tested this since I use a cable modem with a standard DHCP connection and use the ports for low priority queues. I'm just reporting what I hear in the Sveasoft forums.

The new Alchemy release from Sveasoft is supposed to bring much more to the "table" in the QOS area. Alchemy will be for customers only and Satori will be released to general public.

To anyone that feels like doing a few advanced settings via telnet to setup the current queues a little better to fit the 90Kbps traffic feel free to contact me.

I also recommend any of the subscribers to post problems they have in the Sveasoft customer support forum. If you don't announce your problems there, no one will know the problem exists.

Digiblur,
Most of the stuff talked about over there is way over my head and currently I do not have the time to research what everything means/does.

A nice how-to on adjusting the queues for the laymen/laywomen (if there are any) here would be greatly appreciated. I understand the basic problem i.e. you have a pipe and currently the queues use more than 100% of the pipe when totaled but I have no idea what settings are for what.

I wish James would just incorporate these fixes into a build so I don't have to worry about them.
