Just flashed my BEFSX41 with 1.51.00 and it killed the router. During the flash all of the lights began to blink rapidly. After that it would do nothing. The internal web page cannot be accessed and it cannot be pinged.
This caused me to look in my storage cabinet and pull out a old Nexland Pro 400. Believe it or not the Nexland blows the doors off the Linksys with respect to speed. Web pages literally pop open immediately when clicked. I stopped using it because it does not have many of the modern security features that are contained in todays routers. To bad Symantec purchased Nexland and closed their doors. They made a fantastic group of products with excellent customer support. |

What is a "long reset" and how do you perform one? |

I second this. My router didn't reboot using 1.50.18, and it doesn't do it with 1.51. I am not using the "Firewall Protection" feature, if that makes any difference. |

I play a couple of online games which one of them happens to be Counter-Strike. After flashing to this firmware, I can play for about 1 minute before I'm kicked out of the game with random errors messages.. I flashed back to 1.45.7 and now back to working normally |

Nerdtalker:
Long reset is performed by holding reset button in for 30 seconds. I have found in practice that at around 15 to 20 seconds the router seems to reset so don't know the reason for holding a full 30 seconds but that is what Linksys suggests. |

I still have some issues with MS Messenger. I appear to be logged in and chatting with someone and then the next thing I know I get a message that the recipient can not be reached because I am not signed on. Had no problems with 1.45.7. Thinking about going back for the time being |

| reply to Flogator I went back to 1.45.7 as well. Everything is just faster and snappier, both as far as wan access and the management interface for the firewall/router.
I don't think Linksys will ever get this right...
Don't they have any internal qa team? I thought Cisco would improve their products...

kirk1233, your observation about disabling logging makes total sense to me. My theory about this issue is when the router is constructing the log entry, if the URL string is too long, it would trample over other portion of memory. If you disable logging, the router will not attempt to construct the log entry thus will not crash. I have already shared my theory with Linksys and provided lots of information about it. We'll see what Linksys will do with that information I provided them .
Thanks for your observation. It looks like my theory makes sense. Mind you, I cannot live without logging so Linksys got to fix this problem. |

1 edit | reply to Flogator Crashed on the first long-URL attempt.
Pages seem to open faster.
No reboots noted on All Seeing Eye refreshes.
NTP works properly.
Repeated attempts to get DDNS to update failed ("DDNS server is currently closed"), though not a big issue, as I use ddclient for Linux.
Why the long times to refresh configuration pages? |

I did the update with the tftp tool, after disconnecting my PPPoE connection on the BEFSX41. It completed without incident, and preserved my configuration from 1.50.18. I did not do the restore-factory-defaults drill. The only "interesting" feature I use is URL keyword filtering, and so far, so good. |

I need to report that it is possible to add 2 more blocking by URL entries. So one can have 6 total entries. This is the same as in fw. 1.45.7. Variables are: txt_url4= and txt_url5= I believe there is no difference between "blocking by url" and "blocking by keyword" fields. All are handled exactly the same. Summary: there are 10 fields + 2 hidden one can use. AliM |

| reply to Flogator said by Flogator : LawnMowerGuy, this is also something I have observed. Go to the Setup tab and hit "Apply Settings" button. Then your DDNS account should be updated with your latest IP. I have noticed that changes to DDNS client does not always lead to a router's reboot and when it doesn't, sometimes you've got to cause that reboot yourself. Try this out and let us know.
I can't get my settings to stick. When I click apply it clears the username feild and says the DDNS server is closed. -- Watch Family Guy website |
