Yeah it still has Winfire on it. LOL. Now that we have the list, would anybody like to seperate them out by state and get phone numbers and websites attached to them? I wish it was as simple as the »www.swbell.com, »www.pacbell.com, and the »www.snet.com websites.

Ok, can I ask another question?

Must the ISP have a presence in the POP that I connect to for me to be able to use them? I know I'm working off Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo -- does the ISP need to have networking to there, or can my traffic go to some other POP like Chicago or Detroit? And, if it can, is it recommended?

I'm wondering this because Earthlink is in the list, but they still aren't servicing me...

The ISP must have a POP in the LATA that ASI is in. So, unless the Chicago ISP has a pop in Grand Rapids, you cannot order service from them.

That makes a lot of sense -- backhauling the traffic would be pretty inefficient.

So, are there requirements for the ISP as far as bandwidth to the LATA, or do they get to make up the equations? I bet the bandwidth back to wherever they come from can be pretty expensive.

That's completely up to the ISP. If they only want to purchase a DS3 connection, I guess that's their right. But, all of the traffic is UBR. Which means, Unspecified Bit Rate. You try to jam 1000 subscribers down 1 DS3 in a LATA, and your complaints are going to be frequent.

EARTHLINK

I thought Earthlink used Covad. How accurate is this list?

Rough draft. I am seperating the ISPS by their coverage area. I have added in hyperlinks.

While looking for webpages for these providers. I noticed that some of them use 2 CLECs. Some of the ISPs offer ADSL and SDSL. The ADSL is offered by Advanced Solutions Inc usually. The SDSL is usually provided by Rhythms or a non-ASI CLEC. I am surprised at some of these prices. Some of the ISPS are selling the exact same price plans as Ameritech. That is $49.95 for 768/128. A few of the larger ones have reviews here at www.dslreports.com. Anyways, I will keep working on the list through the week when I am not posting or working or going out.

Update 06/19/01: Added the info that aeRo Internet uses Verizon in Chicago and maybe other areas. Added info that HTC Technologies does not offer their DSL service in Chicago yet. Thanks to Deecadams.

Update 06/17/01: Added Provide.net to Michigan with thanks to defiant128, They have both ASI and Covad dsl packages.

Update 06/15/01: Moved I-2000 Inc to Michigan with connotation that they don't offer DSL yet. Thanks to ToucanSam.

I separate most of the ISPs up by region. Though I have a MISC section for ones I couldn’t find in www.dslreports.com ISP list or in www.yahoo.com. This list was originally posted by an anonymous poster, so I do not know how accurate it is. I only sorted it and added links. If somebody can confirm the accuracy of this list we can addit to the top of the Ameritech Funhouse as Ameritech ISP Partners like Pacbell and Swbell have done.

THIS IS THE UNOFFICIAL LIST OF ISPS THAT ASI PROVIDES SERVICE TO IN THE AMERITECH REGION

Earthlink is using Covad for their CLEC, even though they have signed up with ASI also. I have moved them down to MISC because of this.

Illinois
aeRo Internet (uses Verizon and ASI, but only Verizon it seems in Chicago area)
ChicagoNet
DLS Internet
HTC Technologies Co (not in the Chicago area yet)

Indiana (Indiana is still ramping up for DSL for Ameritech)

Sol Tec Inc (They don’t seem to have DSL available yet)

Advanced Solutions Inc does not provision SDSL lines I think. The SDSL is usually provided by Rhythms or a non-ASI CLEC.

Wow, thanks for all the work. I wonder if an email to these would produce a confirmation or a "nondenial denial".

How come my "http://" hyperlinking is only working for some links but not the others? I used the "http://" format.

Good question. I think you found a site bug. I'll point Justin at this and see what he thinks. It should be working. Maybe it's the post length or number of links.

Probably the number of links, I went back and counted the links more thoroughly. If you notice the first 10 hyperlinks have no trouble at all. All links after the first 10 are bad.

It has evidently come up before, as other moderators have confirmed it. If you use the A HREF= tag you can get them in, so that's what I did. Thanks again for all the work.
