 | reply to Irish Shark Did it...These are the new results...What should I be looking for. Do you think this is an issue with my wireless LAN or with my connection?

Irish SharkPlay Like A Champion TodayPremium,MVM join:2000-07-29 Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 1 edit | John, there is something going on with your connection. It got worse with the wireless out of the loop.
Make sure that you have a filter on all the phone lines (alarm?). Check the filters. Maybe one (or more) might be going bad.
Check all your cables. Try replacing the CAT5 from the MODEM to the router. ---------- Try a direct connect to the MODEM (pull the router). |
|
 | Don't know what happened...These are updated results.

Irish SharkPlay Like A Champion TodayPremium,MVM join:2000-07-29 Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | Now that is a heck of a lot better. -------- One think I do notice is that the MTU has gone up.
Now this is without the router? Or a hard wire to the router? |
|
 | This is without the router...straight from the modem to laptop |
|
Irish SharkPlay Like A Champion TodayPremium,MVM join:2000-07-29 Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | So far it looks like it is a possible MTU problem. The route is feeding 1420 MTU and when connected to the MODEM it is 1480. ------------- Now you said that there is noway to change the MTU. Is there a setting for PPPoE or anything like that? ------------- What kind of signal strength/quality do you get with the wireless? -- "A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. I know what happened here. You just ran the tests before opening up The Doctor and saving it with just the MODEM. -- "A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. | reply to Irish Shark I can't find where to change the MTU on the router....I chacked with online support, and it said what I stated above.
This is what I see under "Internet Settings" for my router:
PPPoE Setup Some ISPs require the use of PPPoE to connect to their services: PPP over Ethernet Enable Disable PPPoE User Name PPPoE Password Confirm Password PPPoE Service Name (optional) Maximum Idle Time 15 minutes30 minutes60 minutes90 minutes120 minutesforever
Connection Parameters IP Allocation Mode Dynamic IP address (automatically allocated) Primary DNS Address (optional) Secondary DNS Address (optional) Host Name (optional)
There is an Advanced tab, but only has the follwing:
Clone MAC Address Current Internet MAC Address: 00-0B-AC-E4-ED-AB
In terms of my signal strength, it varies from "very good" to "excellent"

Irish SharkPlay Like A Champion TodayPremium,MVM join:2000-07-29 Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | John, what is "PPP over Ethernet Enable Disable" set to? ----- If you can't change it, then your speed might be what it is at the reduced speed and there is nothing that you can do.
If you want the full speed, you might need a new wireless router. -- "A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," he said, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste |
