Netscape has already been destroyed by AOL. Last year, they discountued the Netscape browser, version 7.1 was the final version. The developers have all moved on. Netscape is no longer a browser company, AOL turned it into a web portal and discount ISP.

I wonder if Time-Warner would be willing to dump Netscape into Microsoft's hands for a good sum of cash... Time Warner gets a ROI on the failed takeover from AOL and MS gets rid of competitor at the same time.

True, but they would need to find a way to keep the AOL subscribers from leaving. My first guess would be that they should lower rates to reasonable levels, but that probably won't happen. Of course if they raise rates it will increase the rate of subscriber loss.

I don't think that's a good idea... AOL subscribers are used to AOL software only. Changing them to MSN would be a support (and cost) nightmare. MSN could of course adopt the AOL "look-and-feel" but then we don't get anywhere :)
