Yes, the 192.168.1.2:8000 link works only for you (when at your computer or another locally networked computer), and the 216.161.68.19:8000 link works only for people on the Internet reaching your computer via your modem. Congratulations!

Well, I finally got to see the Internet Gateway. It showed up when I upgraded the firmware. But, it disappeared. I got it again when I installed uPNP from the WinXP disc.

Is Internet Gateway supposed to be DISCONNECTED? When I tell it to connect, it says "connected" but really seems to stay disconnected on the Network Connections screen.

I cannot run any type of program to force the maps. They all tell me "connection forcefully rejected." Can anyone help? The modem works great, for normal use.

Also, is there any way to use an Intel Pro 2100 with QWest/MSN? Maybe I'll just swap to Earthlink and get a different modem, ... hopefully.

The adding of ports on the Internet Gateway does not work for me. I show no improvement on any program that seems to want to use them.

Thanks for any help!! Please, help! I spend about 6 hours yesterday messing with this. I always figured the problems I had connecting through specific ports were on the other side of the line.. hahaha.

Thanks Jared. It opens but after a period ( undetermined) it closes. Not sure how long it remains open or closes, but your tool has been invalueble.

Well, I couldn't get that to work. I was about ready to get rid of MSN DSL and go with QWest DSL, or get rid of my DSL 1000 and get an Intel 2200... but guess what...!!!

I got it to work!

I reinstalled fresh XP and installed uPNP from the WinXP CD. I then installed the Intel Chipset and the LAN and audio drivers for my motherboard. I set up my DSL 1000 using the actual CD install, and VOILA... I get the Internet Gateway (CONNECTED!!!). I added the ports I knew I'd be using for eDonkey2000 (fresh install) and I'm now downloading from eDonkey users at 66K/s right now (640kbps down) so I'm almost maxed. YAHHOOO!!

For all of you that can't get things to work for one reason or another, try a new install of XP. Try installing in the order I installed with a reboot after each step. Good luck.

Oh yeah! I have gone to a few sites to stan all ports (used Blues Port Scan too) and I'm still closed to the world, with exception to the ports I opened. Awesome!

This thread is great! Thanks everyone! I have been able to make my computer accessible via the web, but I kind of have a weird problem...

I am unable to access my computer via the 192.168.1.2 address (and yes, I am trying to access it from within my network). I can go to 192.168.1.1 and see the lovely modem web page, but I cannot access 192.168.1.2. I am assuming this is because I also have a router installed, and it is assigning IP numbers 192.168.23.xx to my network, but I don't know. I can access the computer with the web server by typing in it's local IP address, i.e. 192.168.23.xx:xxxx, and when I'm on a different network, I can access it through the DSL modem's IP address with the newly opened port, so that all seems to be working fine. It's just kind of annoying, because it gives me a greater sense of security to access it through the DSL modem within my own network. Can anyone help?

cts: You may have to do these things:

1.) Forward a Port (e.g. 80) from the modem to a specific IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.2).
2.) Under LAN card TCP/IP settings Use the following IP address: 192.168.0.2
3.) Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
4.) Preferred DNS Server: 127.0.0.1
5.) Set your web server to listen on 192.168.0.2

Perhaps this offers some things to think about. Settings can get a bit tricky depending on hardware configurations.

You seem to be the smart one here. Many thanks for your UPnpInterface. It works perfectly on the computer the MSN DSL 1000 is connected to via an ethernet network interface card.

I'm doing this to make eMule work. Do you have any idea how to make port 4662 visible on a second computer networked to the MSN DSL 1000 connected computer through a second ethernet network interface card? They are Linksys cards if that has any relevance. One is version 4.1 and one is version 5. The DSL 1000 plugs into v5 and the computers are networked via a pair of v4.1's.

I have the feeling it's not going to be possible, but I thought I'd ask.

I could never get the upnpinterface to work but I did get the msn1000 to work. I don't know why but I finally have a port open yeehaa. Thanks for all of the work everyone

It doesn't require a fresh install.. it will do it if you directly connect the MSN DSL modem to an XP pro computer with USB. The problem I have is I need to use the ethernet connection and connect it to my router... if I connect it to the computer via USB.. then I have to use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to enable other computers on my network to use the connection.. defeating the point of having a router, and loading my main computer with unnecessary overhead.

Which method are you using? I flashed my modem to reflect the SMC it really is. In the same spot you forwarded your UDP port, you should be able to check TCP as well.

So far, I can't figure out how to configure it...lol.

The udp that I had configured did'nt speed up eDonkey at all. You have to configure udp and tcp seperately.

Is that how you did it? Using this Internet gateway settings? If so, how did you do it. If not, then maybe explain it to me more.

If you are using the Internet Gateway, I'd suggest using one of these guys programs that run a batch list, opening up all ports in the batch. I never actually got any of the programs to work, which is why I resorted to a different fix...

You can't use the fix in the thread I just linked unless you have the MSN DSL 1000 (blue). There has been one person that reports the flash screwed up their modem, but many that love it, a far better success ratio than the uPnP methods, but uPnP, whether it works or not, shouldn't put any risk to your modem (but puts a lot of risk on your PC to be hacked from what I understand).

Unfortunately, I can't answer your Q about Internet Gateway. I don't use it anymore, now that my SMC (MSN 1000) is fully configurable and I don't remember how to configure it. Of course, I am having cable broadband (1.5mbps) installed tomorrow.

You should be able to just "Add New," type a name in for the service (ie. eDonk TCP 4662), type in the port # (internet and external port # is same), and check TCP or UDP. You have to do this for EVERY port, which is why I suggest you use some of the programs these guys have been working on, if you can get them to work. The programs wouldn't recognize my modem, plus I didn't like installing uPNP, .NET, and all the other programs necessary to run them that I'd never use otherwise.

I'm not stomping on their grounds. I'm sure they are great programs. They just didn't work for me -- and about half the others that posted in the 9 pages.

Basically it worked the first time I flashed it. The modem trained, was online for about 10-20 minutes, then stopped. It wouldn't load pages etc. so I reflashed, now I cant access pages in 192.168.x.x. I reflash again, same. I redownload smc firmware and flash. same

Strange that it would work great... then poof. You'd think if it was the flash that it wouldn't work at all. I wonder if that was just the time your modem was going to fail.
