Have a Plextor CD-WR, and I use Nero.. no troubles there..
Using an Iomega Jazz drive on a SCSI card (no drivers - I don't boot off it).. no troubles.
I use AVG 6 Free and ZAF; no trouble with either (ZAF had a lot of 'repeat programs' on Win components, of course)

I installed Sun's JVM and I had a very bad experience. The browser closed without warning if there was an applet on the page and an error was generated and placed in a text document on the desktop.

It was a slipstreamed SP4, just testing. Yep, I see the same Speed Disk warning. However my NSW 2003 LiveUpdate seems to be working just fine ( Auto updated on the 28th) Ironically I have just recently started using Speed Disk again as mine was killed by a Norton update some years ago, and I couldn't be bothered re-installing NSW to fix it. I guess I will go back to the Win2K Defrag program for a while, as it works fine for me. I expect that the SD warning is just a caution ?? er, tempted... but I won't be testing it out for fun.

Slipstreaming is the process of Integrating a Service Pack into the install so that the Operation System and the Service Pack are installed at the same time. Microsoft does this with their operating systems and other software such as Office. With the know-how and right materials the end-user can do this also.

I don't think SP4 has any relations to gaming, if it does, I didn't notice anything different. Other than that, I like SP4 so far. I've installed it in the three PCs here in my house and everything's great. It's weird...but after every installation, that PC seemed to "run faster." FWIW, we always seem to find the final releases on the Microsoft site a day or two earlier than the official appearance. The same discussion came up when XP SP1 came out. For those who might be worrying -- don't.

I have noticed one silly thing already that it fixed, I have an HP with the multimedia keyboard (which sux) the only thing that I like that works on the keyboard is the volume knob. SP3 stopped it from working, SP4 fixed it, works fine now. I will have to mess around with the PC and see what else I notice that is different. Something as silly as the volume knob working makes me happy.

I never said anything about people being noobs, people that know what they are doing can also have differing opinions on patch management, among other things.
I guess my view is that, if I applied a patch (service packs just being a collection of patches), and it broke something that affected the use of network services for the people that use our network, I would have some explaining to do. And my answer better include, "that didn't happen when I tested it". Not to mention the work I would have to do to fix it. I suppose that is different than applying it to one machine, which a lot of people don't rely on for services.

Perhaps my view of this is tainted by my experience with service packs on NT4, where a few of them were utter crap, and caused many problems (especially when applied by someone who didn't research their ramifications, such as replacing vendor supplied device drivers). Better safe than sorry.

Why not join the site and see for yourself that most of the folks installing this are *not* n00bs and do indeed know what they are doing. If you want credibility for your arguments, posting anonymously is not the way to get it.

I have a fully functional LAN at my house with W2k Server (my AD controller) with SP4 freshly installed last night. I have had no problems with it, nor do I expect any. I too seem to notice a slight increase in performance and on a DC, every little bit helps!

BTW: Take another look at the top post. The link to the list of bug fixes is non-MS true enough, but the express and network downloads are 100% MS

Again, why not join the site ( it's free or paid, your choice) and see everything we have to offer.....:)

I have just installed SP4 and spoolsv.exe is version number 5.0.2195.6659 (as above) but is shown as being created on May 2, 2003. What is different is the file size which is 45,328 bytes.

They are the same.

Edit w/ more info: The beta testers have been informed the two are the same. Today's Windows Update is the "public" release. Skipdawg posted a "deep link" that was available a day or two earlier by MS to certain folks.

I have just installed SP4 and spoolsv.exe is version number 5.0.2195.6659 (as above) but is shown as being created on May 2, 2003. What is different is the file size which is 45,328 bytes.
