Capping Discussion Here Only

Let's try this again.

I've created this thread and made it sticky so it always stays on top.

ALL cap discussions from here on out will be contained in this one thread.

If you want to know why you were capped, here.
If you want to know how to not get capped, here.
If you want to complain about OOL and how horrible they are, here.
If you want to defend the caps, here.

If you want to discuss this new policy, not here. Send me an IM and I'll be happy to discuss it.

I promise you I am not trying to stifle discussion of the subject (I think that's pretty clear from my actions to date). I am just trying to restore sanity to this forum by keeping this all in one place, so it doesn't overtake everything else.

Please post everything related to the new OOL capping procedure in this thread.

Thank you.
Lex

Now I lost my train of thought, lol...JUST KIDDING!!

I was gone for a few minutes, so now I'm out of the loop. Don't know for sure what happened here, but whatever Lex thinks is right is ok by me.

ANYWAY, where were we?

I will start... anyone who got capped deserved it and should have lost service entirely

I think Lex thought we should start with an intelligent post.

I'm sure you're right--sorry, but I missed the last of the other one. I'll wait on this one, as I've made my opinion on this subject crystal clear, probably at least 100 times.

This is my first time responding to a cap discussion and I think that those who got capped probably deserve it. THey make it sound as if they weren't abusing the upload much and OOL picked them to cap. However I think that it would be nice if OOL gave us an idea of what they consider is abusing because I was sending my friend a 14 megabyte file and I sent it at only 27KB because I was scared that they were gonna cap me if I use my full speed. My only wish is that they do not lower the speed caps for download and that they never put a cap on bandwith usage.

my 25cents

Cablevision should give the users a clear guideline what could cause a cap. Otherwise it will waste our time and the Service Reps. that have to answer the calls from un-educated users. I'm sure it is no coincidence that OOL sent out that server E-Mail to try and control the amount of un-educated capped users.

I use OOL in Stratford, I use Adelphia in Bethany. OOL Rocks, Adelphia needs some work. SprintPCS for home, Nextel for work. Both phone are great.

they are very clear... abuse of the service causes you to get capped... of course they can't give exact numbers, otherwise all the fools will be skating just below the numbers given, and that is less than helpful

I think CV has made it very clear by saying "disable file sharing" obviously NOT to get capped.

if they give a number that's acceptable that wont supposedly hurt others, than what is the harm in skating below that number? honestly, if really there was a problem with the network, tell what will keep it from being a problem, skate under and all is good? make sense?

Re: Capping Discussion Here Only

All I know is what a tech told me on the phone "they r capping people for uploading to MORE THEN ONE IP at a time" He must be right, cause I upload like a mad man and I am not capped.

It makes sense to me that if OOL is willing to cap someone who's uploading 24x7 @ 150kb, then that's probably the limit. If OOL thought it was 175kb, wouldn't they cap folks at that?

Have you tweaked your OOL connection?

No kidding... Tell me what useful information exactly does Josh's sentence give you? Morbid, buddy, get to your senses...
