Re: Messed Up Priorities

Just try getting a job in my area without internet access. Feeling that you won't be able to pay your electric bill. Messed up thing is people can apply for welfare and social security without an internet connection around here. So without internet to the welfare line you go.

Applying for a job does not require that you have internet access at home.

Local office of the state run workforce development program will have computers available to complete job applications.

Or borrow it from someone. But you can take a shower at the Y. That does not make hot water any less a utility. Most companies here have done away with paper applications. Trust me. I was shocked when I went to look for a new gig in the past few years.

Those resources are limited as well just like the libraries thanks to budget cuts. Also those resources are particularly limited in rural areas and those offices may only be open a few hours each week.

I live in an area that has been hit hard by budget cuts. Our roads are a mess, and they just had to raise the trash fee to free city funds to reopen several libraries that were slated to be permanently closed. The state workforce development authority and vocational rehab are a joke. They don't return calls and you have to file unemployment by phone with three hour hold times.

You won't have hot water if you aren't willing to pay for the hookup, the sewer, the gas line, the water heater, the water and gas bills.

Some will argue that Domestic Hot Water is "necessary" for living/habitability, some states define it so, legally, though certainly, technically, it is not. Broadband certainly does not qualify in the same manner.

A large percentage of the population has indicated that your "utility" is not a necessity, and choose not to pay for it. If the remainder of you want it, you'll need to pony up the market price, not expect the taxpayers to make up the difference.

If you're applying for a job, and you can't be bothered to find internet access because you don't have the luxury of using it at home, don't worry, you wouldn't have passed the interview.
