Everything you did could have easily been done without broadband. Broadband just made it easier. It is a convenience and nothing more. It is not necessary. You can live without it. You can't live without running water, heat, properly stored food, etc.

That's incorrect, the only real necessity you need is AIR. Everything else you can work for.

But you can do ALL of those things without being connected to a UTILITY. You can provide your own water, heat, electricity.

You can't however make your own Internet out of the air. That requires an actual delivery of a utility.
