Unfortunately this is happening more and more where users cant use "modems" of there choice. Seems a little like a monopoly in some way. There is no really reason why a 3rp party hardware cant accept and run any necessary "proprietary" software if even needed.
And now this "situation" affects the tv side as well. Not only is "proprietary" software needed now we are forced to use "proprietary" hardware.
