I'm finishing up prepping tomorrow. I'm in the Philly burbs just north of Delaware and it looks like we may very well get an aers kicking. Gonna finish prepping the gutters tomorrow & make sure my sump pump is ready to roll. If the gutters are good, typically I don't need the sump. Found the front downspout TOTALLY clogged today. That's good & bad. Good I found it! That means less chance of basement water. Bad that it was clogged. Anyway, charging all the chargeable devices, going to fill the tub with water for flushing (I have a well, and had no power for 5 days last year with Irene) and bring the trash cans in. Either we get clobbered, or it ends up being phooey.

I thought Irene would be phooey & I got my aers handed to me. I'm prepping and hoping for the best.....

I hear ya on that one. Im in the navy and we went down to the commissary to stock up on stuff. But Ive been told if the navy says mandatory evac then i will go lol. Ive never been in a hurricane before. I'm from AR and ive been through all kinds of tornadoes. We live on the 3rd floor here in a 2bed apartment so I didnt know if it would really have any effect on us, other than power outages. Of course though I dont want my brand new Scion TC to get lots of water underneath it lol.

Hopefully it won't be too bad, i live in WV (just above/side-by-side) of VA and this past summer it was beginning to get to the point of either life or death and i am dead serious. The entire valley was dead without power for up to 4 whole days, gas stations were closed and hard to get to since there was no gas, some people did'nt get power back till 3 weeks later (or more) so yes this was bad. I had no problem but the food I needed cooked was something i needed but the heat I did not care about cause I'm use to it.

Should be buying canned ready to eat soups; canned meat; crackers & no refrigeration cheese spread in cans; tuna fish; etc I stuffed 2 bags of ice in the freezer - it acts as an old fashioned ice box if you leave the door closed. Keeps frozen foods good for a day or so if electric not out too long.

Ever hear or watch the TV show called extreme coupon? anyone? thats where everyone stocking up on everything.. There's this one episode i watched one time and she did'nt have to spend even a penny, the grocery cost was 2 thousand or somethin and when she got it all back to her home she showed off here canned food collection.. It was the one things that you can fill up with all kinds of cans and when u swap a can out from its dispenser, it quickly rolls/brings out another can behind it. She also had a ton of bagged junk foods like chips or doughnuts. I am pretty positive she will be ready for anything(:

I'm on the opposite side of the water from you, even though we always end up flooding to some degree, we'll be sticking it out at home.

I am ALWAYS impressed when a hurricane can even reach me to be honest.

I sure pity my US friends in the south along the coast though.

I am one of those that can survive when these things hit. Had the same generator from the ice storm of 98 heat with wood cook with propane and lots of can goods in the pantry. Been prepared for years!

I live in Southeast Ohio and work for the railroad. They pushed the panic button on us this morning and I am now in Western Maryland on emergency duty. They are talking about lots of snow in the mountains where I am now!

Around here we're supposed to get 5-10 inches of rain. 5 inches is manageable but if it's over 7 or 8 it'll take out some bridges. While that would get some bridge construction money flowing immediately I'd still rather not see it happen.

Fun fact. I've got a buddy that works for VA Power, he told me that they'll actually shut down the power substations ahead of the storm if the weather gets bad enough, to prevent damage to their electrical switchgear. So there's a possibility of losing power even before the brunt of the storm hits the area.

High tide is only a couple of hours away now, should be interesting to see what the water does. We're feeling some of the wind and rain already this morning.

You know.. i think this is exactly what happen here as well, with the tornado that came through here, it was'nt nothing and then power turned off before it even got serious.... maybe it will happen again.

Good luck you guys.. and hang in there.

They're calling for 2 FEET of snow and rain with this storm. I wouldn't mind a foot sent our way.

I'm in the DC area and it's just been rain so far here.
Of course they've cancel all the trains ( Metro, VRE, Marc) for tomorrow. Looks like a bunch of people will get another day off of work...
