Re: Typical Apple Mentality

said by J E F F:

I agree, this disaster of a OS wouldn't have seen the light of day if Jobs was still alive. Now I have to go through loops to get back my iOS 5 back. That, or just go back to using a BB.

This isn't the first time there has been a botched iOS release. There was one in the pre-3G days when the things were only sold in the US and a few European countries that bricked god knows how many phones that were a scourge to deal with on the support end. People just never hear about any of it or quickly forget about it because Apple runs a very efficient propaganda machine.

All things considered, if Maps is the only thing that sucks they could have done a lot worse.

The bricking was due to people using an old version of the AnySIM unlock. I know...I sold a competitor that didn't brick when people upgraded their phones. Phones were unbricked later, and a new version of AnySIM came out that didn't brick things when upgrades were made.

Right. The problem was with how Apple handled it. I had heard more screaming customers during that one week than I had not only before, but after as well.

In that case, Apple most likely didn't try the upgrade on a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone. It's arguable whether they should be testing that. They probably do these days in order to save face, since people will still blame them even if a bricking error is due to the phone being jailbroken.

The biggest issue we ran into were IMEI numbers that were being erased with that updated, and we had customers swear up and down that they didn't modify their phone even though the talking point we had to stick to was that the phone has been modified, warranty is now void and you're only option is to buy a brand new iPhone as we wouldn't even do a discounted $250 repair. It was a messy situation, and the guys in Cupertino really threw all of us in Niagara Falls, Sacramento and Austin under the bus over it.

Just not maps, but Youtube too. Other issues but I am thinking it is just server farms and can happen to anyone. But overall, not impressed. Not sure why they would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have at least the iPhone 5 or better (sic).
