The Patent Office for granting such a ludicrously broad patent, and the holder for abusing such to stem competition because an icon looks just a little too similar - though this is not to be confused with trademarks suits such as that by Sony against Clearwire. Let's be honest, that logo for Clearwire DID look pretty darn similar to Sony's Ericsson logo.

Not quite, though I see how my statement could give such a connotation. Let me be a bit more concise: I don't claim to be an expert on patents. For that matter, IANAL. But I know something is ludicrous when I see it; and there's no way that a rectangle with a rounded edge is a logical patent. If it is, then whoever made this logo right here has got problems ahead of them (Despite predating the iPhone).

In the end I imagine we are judged not based on how we explited the loopholes of our time's unrefined laws and thought processes but rather on our common sense, good judgment in spite of society's flaws, and decency.

Apple has taken many lessons from Monster Cable it seems, by suing anyone and everyone that even slightly resembles them. Monster Cable sued everyone for using the word monster no matter what it referred to (including a family fun park, and a vintage clothing store) Suing a grocery store in POLAND... wow.
