actually it's supposed to matter what we think. if the system as a whole is working correctly and enough people pressure their elected representation the laws can be changed. however due to the $$ being spread around sadly in effect you're statement is correct. the law is what it is and even though it is horribly broken it won't be fixed any time soon.

They have patents on things that are prior art. Have you ever seen a phone with sharp corners? Nope, they are all rounded...
Some patents are retarded and many are issued without even doing checks on whether the things already exist. Some time ago a guy patented the wheel. Yes, that's right. The patent was issued for a "circular transportation facilitation device"...
