I think that's actually the first market that AT&T has launched LTE in before Verizon!

Now you start to see why GCI and Alaska Communications (fka ACS) merged their wireless operations on the backend; Verizon will be following AT&T into AK as fast as they can with LTE.

I was very surprised to find out a co-worker's Galaxy S3 had turned to LTE last week. I didn't know AT&T would spend money on Alaska any mOre than it had to. I'm with GCI and will be for a while.

From what I understand, ACS has the LTE spectrum, but GCI has the resources to launch it quickly. That's why they have joined forces. Hopefully the Alaska Wireless Network will get LTE soon. They'll have to.
