tpkatl join:2009-11-16 Dacula, GA | This is about promoting religion, not controlling internet The theory is that if you are not watching porn, then you will read the bible and attend church. (This helps satisfy the goals of the Religious Taliban Right in this country)
Thing is, this sort of thing shows up on presidential platforms all the time. It's meaningless crap that has absolutely no chance of going anywhere.. It makes for some fun headlines and it warms up the faithful, but even the AFA and the Morality people don't have a remote expectation of it moving forward.
And let's not forget that the porn publishing and video industry is HUGE, probably larger than the commercial movie industry. There is big money to be lost if this sort of shenanigan goes forward.
So let them play their political charades. This is silly on the face of it. |

 | Oh, don't fool yourself; they'll try if given half a chance. Remember the Communications Decency Act? That thing was as harsh a law as they come, and it took the Supreme Court to kill it.
Also look at some of the anti-indecency laws that came out of Congress in the '80s and '90s. Jesse Helms was always pushing one bill or another, and several actually passed, but, thankfully, the Supreme Court ruled against them. |

The problem is all that religious public policy makes its way into bills and at the very least wastes everyone's time. Think Congress hasn't been doing anything. Well the GOP has introduced more anti-abortion legislation than anything else all year.
My favorite this year is editing a monument for fallen troops in WWII to highlight prayer.
Eg. (H.R. 2070: World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2012) »www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr2070 |
