Just because someone chooses to own their home, doesn't mean they're fair-game for every local politician to steal from them.
In our state, as in most, property tax is primarily supposed to support the school system What does that $7 billion annual (plus $32 billion in bonds) get us? A system that segregates kids by color (red and blue), has a 50% failure rate, and repeatedly violates state law by not teaching kids English, and fails to protect the safety of teachers and students, but insists that gang members must be allowed in the classroom.
I'm NOT ok with paying 30% income tax, and I certainly don't expect anyone else to pay that rate or more.
We need people in charge who behave like adults, not a kid in a candy or toy store. We pay far too much in tax across the board, and it needs to stop. What's the point of working for a living, trying to run a business, wherein you employ people, making investments, if over half of everything you make goes to the government who then uses it to buy votes? | |

If you say you want everyone to pay "their share", then indeed, you do care.
I'd like to see everyone's "share" reduced substantially, in accordance with a downsizing of government at all levels, so the taxpayers, with more of their money in their wallet, can choose how best to spend it.
I'd love to have 70% of my income after taxes.
"More income" won't achieve that. | |

Some taxes are necessary. Not anywhere near as much as is taken from us.
You stated that "If you can't live on 70% of your income, you might need more income". You apparently aren't very familiar with the tax system, or you'd know that's mathematically impossible, since the government takes, at the very least, 41.5% of every additional dollar we earn, before they tax you again and again on the same money.
When I was in the tax-compliance business many moons ago, there were only 5500 different types of taxes to pay. Today, there are over 10,000, and most of them are bigger bites than yesteryear, with many set to go to even higher heights quite soon.
If you want your "modern society" to be sustained, not go the way of Greece (and soon France), you're going to have accept that there is a limit to how much tax you can collect from the productive class before they fold their tent and your job goes away.
Apart from a basic military and the criminal courts system, virtually nothing that the government owns/operates/runs couldn't be done better via private contractors at a much lower cost, with massive benefits for the citizenry.

Ya. I'm going to trust a private contractor with classified data.
Me, being a Radioman (Information Systems Technician), would start questioning the government and the higher ups if they even thought this was a good idea. All I can see is a massive security hole and a nightmare following. There's a reason our data should never be on a civilian "cloud".
