I would LOVE to see something to substantiate that claim.

Go add up all the taxes you pay in a month. Not just the stuff that gets taken out of your paycheck, but everything else too... sales tax, property tax, gas tax, any excise tax, all the other taxes you pay.

In fact, I challenge everyone to do this.

You will be very surprised to see how much in total tax you pay.

sales tax and property tax are not functions of your income, so I don't see your point. Just because it seems like a lot compared to how much you make per month doesn't mean squat as to it being too high. maybe you live beyond your means?

I'm fine with paying ~$7k/year for property taxes on a $200k home. I'm also fine with paying 30% income taxes as long as those that make more than me pay their fair share also and don't cheat the system. It provides amazing schools, police, fire department, etc etc etc. That is the cost of not living in the ghetto. But then again, maybe people would rather have that.

Quit framing your presidential candidate's words so when he comes clean on the "pays lots of taxes" he references every soda and candybar he's paid taxes on.

People actually like taxes but a lot of people like yourself convince a lot other people that "taxes are bad" while making sure they ignore all the things they need every day that are the result of the evil taxes. Everytime I hear people whining about taxes I point out it would be really simple for their fire department to go away and their mcmansion can burn to the ground because they can't actually afford their own fire truck for just their own house which is what brought about the whole long list of public services that are provided by TAXES.

I don't care if you love companies that want to make sure that providing broadband internet is a cash cow and exclusive because the reality of it is that it's a UTILITY and it soon will be an actual RIGHT of everyone to have cheap and easy access to it and all the whiners will eventually not be heard from again.

Well I'm not.

Just because someone chooses to own their home, doesn't mean they're fair-game for every local politician to steal from them.

In our state, as in most, property tax is primarily supposed to support the school system What does that $7 billion annual (plus $32 billion in bonds) get us? A system that segregates kids by color (red and blue), has a 50% failure rate, and repeatedly violates state law by not teaching kids English, and fails to protect the safety of teachers and students, but insists that gang members must be allowed in the classroom.

I'm NOT ok with paying 30% income tax, and I certainly don't expect anyone else to pay that rate or more.

We need people in charge who behave like adults, not a kid in a candy or toy store. We pay far too much in tax across the board, and it needs to stop. What's the point of working for a living, trying to run a business, wherein you employ people, making investments, if over half of everything you make goes to the government who then uses it to buy votes?

Anybody who earns less than $30K per year lives beyond their means if they don't live in a cardboard shack under a bridge and feed themselves by dumpster diving; or accept the public dole.

I don't care what anyone pays in taxes, as long as they pay their share. If you can't live on 70% of your income, you might need more income.

If you say you want everyone to pay "their share", then indeed, you do care.

I'd like to see everyone's "share" reduced substantially, in accordance with a downsizing of government at all levels, so the taxpayers, with more of their money in their wallet, can choose how best to spend it.

I'd love to have 70% of my income after taxes.
"More income" won't achieve that.

If you can't live on 70% of $60k/year, which is $42k, you should try to get a job where you make more money. Frankly, if you can't live on $42k/year, you really don't know how to manage money.

if you want to live in modern society, you have to pay taxes.

Some taxes are necessary. Not anywhere near as much as is taken from us.

You stated that "If you can't live on 70% of your income, you might need more income". You apparently aren't very familiar with the tax system, or you'd know that's mathematically impossible, since the government takes, at the very least, 41.5% of every additional dollar we earn, before they tax you again and again on the same money.

When I was in the tax-compliance business many moons ago, there were only 5500 different types of taxes to pay. Today, there are over 10,000, and most of them are bigger bites than yesteryear, with many set to go to even higher heights quite soon.

If you want your "modern society" to be sustained, not go the way of Greece (and soon France), you're going to have accept that there is a limit to how much tax you can collect from the productive class before they fold their tent and your job goes away.

Apart from a basic military and the criminal courts system, virtually nothing that the government owns/operates/runs couldn't be done better via private contractors at a much lower cost, with massive benefits for the citizenry.

Do you really believe that your government manages money better than you?

you know how you don't pay those taxes, don't spend money. it's pretty simple.

So you only want those who "make more than me" to pay their fair share?

What's wrong with EVERYONE paying their "fair share"? Why should anyone get a free ride?

Ya. I'm going to trust a private contractor with classified data.

Me, being a Radioman (Information Systems Technician), would start questioning the government and the higher ups if they even thought this was a good idea. All I can see is a massive security hole and a nightmare following. There's a reason our data should never be on a civilian "cloud".
