[Connectivity] stuck on RCN autoprovisoning site

Please help! I bought a used but reset Motorola Surfboard
SBG901. When I plug it in, everything takes me to RCN's auto provisoning site. I've called Comcast repeatedly and they've manually added my modem to my account as well as provisoned it. I've also reset and power cycled it without any change. What should I do? I'm so frustrated I'm tempted to just cancel and pay the extra for RCN

Did you switch from RCN to Comcast? Are you in a multiple dwelling building?

I'm wondering if somehow you still have service hooked up to RCN's cable plant rather than Comcast's.

The other possibility is that your modem still has a RCN config file, although it should auto download the Comcast one when plugged into the network.

I do live in a condo but my neighbor tells me we can use either RCN or Comcast. I just moved here so I'm not sure what the previous tenant had. The RCN auto-provisioning site asks me to input my account number. It looks like for Internet only their service is a good bit more expensive than the deals Comcast offers.

You should call and have Comcast come out and make certain your cable is physically connected to Comcast and not RCN.

Do you have video service, or just Internet?

Just internet. I was hoping to avoid that since
waiting for a technician and paying the fee are both a nuisance. But I guess once I confirm my building is Comcast capable with another neighbor there's nothing else I can really try...

You'll need to call Comcast for sure. The previous tenants probably had RCN, thus the coax is still hooked up to RCN.

Comcast will have to come out and swap over to their cable plant.

You could try hooking up a TV to the cable and see what channels you get and compare that against the Comcast list. Odds are, it will probably be RCN's channel numbering.

It would be a really good Idea to ask the building manager OR comcast about the details of swithing service.
it is VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY that both RCN and ComCAST are both hooked up to the same coax at once. so either some physical change must be made or the first neighbor was incorrect about the choice, or RCN has locked the modem to their provisoning sites internet side IP (which means it may ONLY work on RCN)

This is actually very common in condos in DC. Most condos are newer and include an independent coax run per unit. Then you can have either Comcast or RCN. So you often see buildings that offer the choice. RCN pretty much covers every quadrant except NE DC. Comcast covers the entire city as they have underground rights as the franchise holder.

but not on the same coax at once, it's still either or.
otherwise when you go to channel 5 whose version of channel 5 does your TV see?
Not to mention all sort of electrical problems through out the plant.

Rcn has zero analog stations. He clearly is hooked up to rcns cable line and needs comcast to come out and switch him over. Even if both services have coax lines running to each unit the odds of both being active is slim to none. Around here its a matter of taking the line from the rcn box and hooking it up to the other box.

Correct. I thought you were referring to the whole MDU/building being only one or the other. Which very few around here are.
