The PigI know you want to be mePremium join:2009-09-11 2 edits | [WIN7] Why is Windows 7 saving all this info? There are 147,147 entries in this folder! And why doesn't Ccleaner or Tuneup Utilities or Gary Utilities clean this up? Is it safe to delete all this stuff?

Those objects that you think are 'in' searches\everywhere are the actual objects that you have at some time searched for. If you delete those, you'll delete the originals.
You can determine that to be true by examining the properties of each.
The 'everywhere' thing is not a file system 'folder', it's a small (~200 byte) file containing some XML. I'm not sure where the actual search results live. But there is definitely no 'copy' of your 147,147 things, there is only a list of them.
You have, I think, made the usual mistake of supposing that Explorer gives you an unmediated view of the file system. It never has done. If you want to look at the file system, use the cmd prompt. Here's my'Searches' directory:
C:\Users\dave\Searches>dir /a
Volume in drive C is sys
Volume Serial Number is 8CA4-46D4
Directory of c:\Users\dave\Searches
7/12/2012 21:10 <DIR> .
7/12/2012 21:10 <DIR> ..
7/12/2012 21:10 524 desktop.ini
5/28/2011 14:04 248 Everywhere.search-ms
5/28/2011 14:04 248 Indexed Locations.search-ms
3 File(s) 1,020 bytes
2 Dir(s) 72,437,755,904 bytes free

davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:8 | reply to The Pig A little experimentation shows that Searches\Everywhere is not 'the results of a previous search', it actively executes a search.
I can tell this because I see something I only created half an hour ago, and I haven't done an explicit search today.
The function of 'Everywhere' is a little mysterious to me -- what's it searching for -- but you can create your own more obviously-useful searches. Type 'save a search' into the help&support app. |

The PigI know you want to be mePremium join:2009-09-11 | reply to The Pig I was just at MS's forum site and found this about deleteing anything in the folder! DON'T DO IT! It's just creepy that Windows 7 saves all this info!

davePremium,MVM join:2000-05-04 not in ohio kudos:8 | Did you not read what I wrote? It's not "saved info" and it's not "in this folder". Whether or not it is "creepy" is up to you, I suppose. |

said by me :The function of 'Everywhere' is a little mysterious to me -- what's it searching for? It is scanning 'Everywhere' looking for filenames that match the pattern in the 'search' box at the top-right of the Explorer window.
To reiterate: this is not info that is saved from a previous search. It is the search. |
