This is good...

I pity those who only have satellite 'net access, but a meter-free period like this definitely softens the blow. Now folks with exede can actually think about backing up their computers online; it might take awhile to seed the initial backup over a connection that may or may not hit 3 Mbps during the free period, but it's better than not being able to back up due to super-low caps.

As a side note, a connection pulling at 12 Mbps for the full five hours of cap-free time could download 27GB in one night. On the upload side, 3 Mbps over five hours would be 6.75 GB per night. So you can download more in one cap-free period than ViaSat's highest-end package allows in a month...this goes to show how tightly ViaSat is controlling peak capacity, but on the flip side you could actually download more over ViaSat without incurring overage charges than you could on Comcast!
