Re: 40% of Vice Presidents? said by Goober:What wasn't mentioned is that a large number of VPs had already been purged a couple of years ago or so. There were VPs that had no reports. Sounds like a defense contractor I worked at years ago. Every relative of the CEO was a vice president... but we had a bottomless pit of money to draw from... the US Taxpayer. |

1 edit | Yeah, I thought it was pretty amazing too. Everyone had hopes of being a VP at some point or other. After working there for a while, though, you realized that a large majority of promotions were based on favoritism and coddling up to the right person. The other path was getting hired in from the outside. They always brought people in at relatively high level compared to their peers who had been there or had grown with the company over time. I was one that came in as a lateral. My pay and grade was 2 levels higher than my peers with the same amount of experience. -- I've heard, and I don't know if it's true, that Harry Reid takes it up the kiester from farm animals. |

1 edit | We had one VP for every 28 employees, Bernie had a LOT of relatives. Most had no reports, many had no show jobs, just an empty desk with a name plate. NONE could recite the names of all their reports if they had any.
The President of the company once climbed a tree with his Porshe at 3am, dead drunk. He was out for a year and no one noticed till he came back in a wheelchair. |

At least I was a part of history, although the true history is hard to find now, it's been sanitized and re-written. The company I worked for GAVE the CHINESE the ability to drop a missile on a dime, anywhere in the world.
The Chinese had great missiles... but couldn't hit anything with them. Most went straight up and came straight back down lol. They just couldn't develop the guidance systems. Under orders of then President Billy Bob Clinton... Against the say of the State Dept., The Pentagon, The CIA, our company sent a team over with not only the guidance systems, but the machines needed to make them (for a small donation of $85 million to the DNC from a company owned by the Chinese Army). After setting up the machines for a "demo", some nice Chinese soldiers, heavily armed, came into the room and said "You can leave now". When the techs moved to the machines to pack them up, rounds were chambered and the soldiers said again "you can leave NOW". The machines, boards, documentation, everything were left there.
A small article appeared in the N.Y. Times, inside seam, way in the back, while the headlines SCREAMED about the stain on Monica's dress. Sadly, that article made the DNC return the $85 million, but the topic was never written about or discussed again. In the "official" history the company was found to be a rogue company that defied export bans and went belly up. They had spent decades making billions...not a bad trade. No one went to prison or was even criminally charged. The country talked about stains and lived happily ever after. The only sad part, is my friends that were on that trip... all died young. Unexplained accidents and suicides.
It really wasn't a good company to work for... |

 | It's not an industry I'd recommend to anyone. It's funny... All these years later, I remember my friends. I Googled around trying to see what remains of the story. History was completely re-written. |
