Re: Kind of late for this: steam subscriber update said by Sukunai:It comes down to 'how many class action suits have you been involved with, and how many do you expect to be involved with, during your entire life?'. Many people dismiss class action lawsuits as being useless for getting any kind of compensation for the people who were wronged. Maybe so, but that misses the bigger picture. Class action lawsuits still punish companies for wrongdoing. If a company screws over enough customers for there to be a class action lawsuit in the first place, something obviously needs to be done. Even if each user only gets a few bucks, the company still has to pay out millions. That hits the company in the bottom line and maybe next time they'll think twice about screwing their customers.
Now that class action lawsuits are effectively banned, any dispute with the company has to be settled via arbitration, which usually goes in the company's favor. So now they get to screw over customers and not face any consequences for it.
You don't think that's something to be concerned about?
Finally, think about this; If class action lawsuits are so useless, why are so many companies rushing to prohibit them? |
