| Kind of late for this: steam subscriber update »www.computerandvideogames.com/36···awsuits/
I know its late for this but i never got around to it. Wonder if they will loose any customers or more importantly any gamers?? If I were steam I would slowly back away from something like this.
Just hope steam knows what they are doing.. |

| It comes down to 'how many class action suits have you been involved with, and how many do you expect to be involved with, during your entire life?'.
Definitely one of those non events, a reason to hate on Steam, that no one ever needed. Heck if I want to hate on Steam, I can do better than this update. Not that I want to hate on Steam, but I know of better reasons if I needed to. |

Many people dismiss class action lawsuits as being useless for getting any kind of compensation for the people who were wronged. Maybe so, but that misses the bigger picture. Class action lawsuits still punish companies for wrongdoing. If a company screws over enough customers for there to be a class action lawsuit in the first place, something obviously needs to be done. Even if each user only gets a few bucks, the company still has to pay out millions. That hits the company in the bottom line and maybe next time they'll think twice about screwing their customers.
Now that class action lawsuits are effectively banned, any dispute with the company has to be settled via arbitration, which usually goes in the company's favor. So now they get to screw over customers and not face any consequences for it.
You don't think that's something to be concerned about?
Finally, think about this; If class action lawsuits are so useless, why are so many companies rushing to prohibit them? |

| reply to diablo1892 Class action lawsuits should be banned as they only benefit the lawyers. A few years back, Sears got hit with a class action suit regarding quotas for selling unnecessary repairs to cars in their auto centers. The plaintiffs lawyers made millions and the affected customers got coupons for discounts on future service.
If you have a legitimate claim against a company, you are better off filing an individual lawsuit (retaining your own attorney if neccesarry) as you'll get more than just coupons off of future service. -- I wish I still lived in Iowa; Everything there from rent and groceries to Cable TV is much cheaper in Iowa (especially with an overbuilder in town). |

| reply to diablo1892 I'm not American, I guess 'I'll sue' is not part of my daily thinking process.
I am not against lawsuits and class action lawsuits, but, I tend to think a video game company and an auto maker exist in different worlds too.
Which is dangerous, a poorly made video game, or a poorly made car?
Which is dangerous, a poorly made health product, or a poorly made video game?
Which is a more important service, a power utility, or a gaming service?
I can't blame Steam for covering their asses from overly sue oriented consumers. I would too.
If I was required to sign off on something like this, for something like water to my home, yes, I would be ultimately pissed off. I expect my water to be safe to drink.
If I find I don't like Steam, I ditch them, and tell them they can forget my money. It's not like I can't live without them. |
