 | Worst small business network - ever? This one takes the cake, haven't seen something this botched in awhile.
Just to point out a few... - PVC water pipe with elbows is considered conduit now? - that black electrical tape wrapped around wires exiting the hole, that's covering CAT5 jacks with plugs in them to "extend" the wire to the patch panel, I'm guessing cause it was just too short? - masking tape as labels - solid CAT5 as patch cables, some stranded CAT5 run through the wall - most of the neon cable ties are squeezed really tight
Not pictured... - found various places where CAT5 was cut/damaged (probably from pulling) their solution? cut out a piece of insulation to make slack then "fix" the damaged pairs with telephone splice connectors. - customer thought using CAT6 cables from the wall jack to the PC would be an improvement
Lesson learned... I should have walked away from this job! |

When you start getting into pairs being split between the key system and the LAN, still running 10b2 cabling, wanting to reused old type-1 token ring cabling, etc, let me know... |

 | reply to ipv6huh I've seen worse in larger enterprises. Obviously some things they could improve, but yea. -- How lucky am I to have known someone who is so hard to say good-bye to. |

KilroyPremium,MVM join:2002-11-21 Ann Arbor, MI | reply to redhat1968 I don't have pictures of the phone room where I used to work. Mounting boards on three walls, about eight foot by ten foot, jumpers that went from wall to wall. They were remodeling when I left and all the excess wire that had been run since the 70s was finally getting demoed. Just when I finally got the work done I was gone. -- Want the shirt? - »www.despair.com/thedestructor.html Not afiliated or making any profit from sales |

 | reply to ipv6huh Well lit, cable ties, clean, switch labeled, mounted on the wall, wall plate and AC outlet are covered. It even has the remote!
Electrical tape and jacks aside, it would be nice if even half of the installs and locations were at least like this. |

 | reply to ipv6huh Yeah sorry but you must be new. That is actually not too bad compared to alot i have seen as well. Cables are labeled and even going to a patch panel. Pvc counts as conduit in my books. Id rather have pvc pipe than nothing at all. |

| reply to ipv6huh You must be new. That isn't bad at all. PVC pipe works, I have used it. And as for the cat 5 jacks hidden under the electrical tape, at least they used jacks and didn't just twist the wire together. You will look back on this and wish this would have been the worst. |

Trying to fix it the one time it doesn't work. That's how you learn why it is good to have everything done correctly and documented.
Worked at a place where they asked me if I knew how to run and terminate cable. I said I could do it, but I wasn't a professional. Turns out they cabled a 200,000 foot referigerated warehouse in a weekend and cable problems were frequent. |
