What can you do with 2 GB a month on LTE?

Everything you could do on the 3G network, only faster.

For all the bellyaching around here (and on other tech sites) about wireless data caps how many users are really impacted? Most people I know use their smartphones for e-mail and web browsing. Caps don't really come into play for them. Nor do they come into play for the majority of people who use their phones to stream audio. Pandora Mobile streams at 64kbit/s (80kbit/s at high quality) which translates into about 36 hours of streaming per gigabyte. Pandora even did a study of their Android/iPhone users and concluded that >90% of them would not be impacted by a 2GB data cap.

And before you say "video", most people who use "mobile video" are watching stupid Youtube clips of cute kittens, talking parrots, and funny television commercials. Few people want to watch full length movies on a cell phone (or a tablet) screen.

We may hate the carriers for these policies but they were smart enough to structure these plans so it would only be a minority of users who are impacted by caps/overages. It's a win-win for them; they either force the heaviest data users to leave the network/limit their usage or they monetize them and have more capital to put back into the network.

+1 WiFi is used enough to keep 3g use to a minimum.

Then what's the point of 3G or 4G if one is just supposed to use Wi-Fi? Hell voice and messaging don't use 4G, 4G is strictly data but if I'm having to use Wi-Fi then WTF is the point of 4G? So I can use it 45 minutes a month? Why am I paying $50-$100 a month for that?

So you do not wait 30 secs for a web page to appear.

Wait, what? So, you can load pages faster on 4G while on WiFi?

This is one of those "Huh?" posts, eh?

That's a pretty large page if it takes 30 seconds to load. Secondly, $100 a month so you can load a page a few seconds faster?

Doesn't that depend on your internet speed your Wi-Fi connection links to? With 4G I can get up to 25X the speed of my GFs DSL internet connection.

I have a 30/5 Optimum Cable Modem here.

Plus, you can surf.. but how long until you spill over your cap and get nailed for overages?

Have you used much "free" or hotel wifi? It's usually slower than snot compared to Verizon LTE.

Better than having an embolism when I receive my bill.
