I did that in the same situation you are looking at--going from a 320GB HDD to a 320 GB Momentus XT. Worked flawlessly. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

1. Sector size changes; hybrid drives make use of an SSD, so I proper partition alignment matters (not sure if the MHDD portion uses 4K sectors or not). If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then you don't have anything to worry about, but if you're using XP this may be a problem.
2. Resizing your existing NTFS partition (e.g. C:) so you can benefit from the increase capacity (320GB -> 500GB). A direct disk copy is definitely the way to go, but afterwards you should consider resizing the NTFS partition. Tools like GParted can do this, if I remember right. Please be sure to back up all of your data before performing this task! -- Making life hard for others since 1977. I speak for myself and not my employer/affiliates of my employer. |

JackarinoPremium join:2006-12-28 Allendale, NJ kudos:1 | reply to Jackarino New HDD in and it works flawlessly !! I couldn't clone the drive, no matter what tool or software I tried. I ended up installing a fresh version of Win 7. I highly recommend the Hybrid drive. Is there a tool to test performance (Win 7)? |
