| [TWC] moving to wideband... Well - while I have been happy with the speed and performance of my TW Turbo (24Mb down, 1.5Mb down) I decided to upgrade to the 30/5 tier.
After an hour on the phone with TW, I got them to re-calculate my current home bill (TV and Internet) so there was $0 increase. In addition, I got them to waive the $45 installation fee!!!!
They come Saturday morning to "install" the new modem so I will update everyone on my experience.
Apparently they now use a Cable modem router combination (they tried to sell me the virtues of TW home wireless - max 6 devices)
Does anyone know how to disable the routing/NAT functions of this device??.

Depends on if they bring the UBEE or the moto SBG6580, and I think in some markets there is an arris D3 modem floating around. The UBEE is easy all you need to have is the link to the hidden page. You can find that hidden link in this thread: »Ubee DDW3611 Bridge Mode??
If you ever end up getting digital phone and the phone modem version of the ubee like I have the hidden link is still the same.
As far as the moto goes there is a little more to it then just a few clicks like with the ubee and unfortunately I don't remember that procedure so anyone else that knows it is welcome to chime in with the proper procedures so at least you (the OP) will be prepared depending on which one you get. Unfortunately I dont know what markets have the arris one, I know parts of my state have it but not down here where I live.

to disable the built in router in modem you have to call time warner, level 3 support.
GL to you with wideband and I hope the higher modulation upstream channels where you live wont have ingress like me. |

| its very easy to log in to the configuration page of the Moto its not a "hidden" page.
Im currently zipping along with the SBG6580 and love it.
just point your browser to 192.168.0.1 and the default username and passwords are going to be Username: admin Password: Motorola
i know in my market wifi on the modem is on & free with the Extreme and wideband service so your going to want to log in and change your user names & passwords.
Second disabling the DHCP server is easy on this modem.. heres a link to the PDF booklet for the modem.

Actually that wasnt true in my wideband (queens, ny) they provided me year ago with 6580 and it was blocked from accessing(believe me i tried) and was told its blocked on purpose and default password are changed too for admin page, sure you could reset it to default and then use defaults but once modem would provision it would block it again and reset some settings based on sent config(bridged or not bridged). The only exception is if I were to get signature service then they would give me access. Since then I bought sb 6141 and of course on this have access to see signals and logs. |

kudos:22 | Probably because they won't support customer equipment besides trying to get it working. So, of course they're not worried about you messing with their equipment and later calling on for support on their equipment due to a setting you messed with. |

well sb 6141 doesnt have actual l/p to access but I bet if i bought my own 6580 (which i hate) then they wuold of block me out. |

Well - time for an update......
My service appointment was between 8am and 11am. It is now 4PM. Numerous calls to support (read that : Phillipines) and attempting to get someone that barely reads english to call dispatch. Finally around nnon I get a call from someone in displatch followed by a call from the tech (cell number blocked) saying he is headed out to my place next.
Now I just got off the phone with support - again - trying to find out where the tech is -seems SOMEONE rescheduled my appointment for tuesday without telling me. Then the "support person" reads me the work log basically telling me what dispatch wrote in there 4 hours ago...
Well I guess its time to give up for the day. Not gonna see wideband.
I wish I could contact someone locally - this offshore call center crap is the worst.......

I have an Arris D3. The config page is »192.168.100.1. The username is admin and the password is something simple like, admin, password, or whatever. If you get one, the manual should tell you. |

After several more calls to support AND finally getting the issue escalated - the local dispatch called me around 10PM to tell me the 'on-call' was on his way to my house with my modem.
He arrived in a bucket truck, scoped out all my signals - actually found a low signal band on the street and replaced an amplifier.
The tech had the provisioning modified to put the device in bridge mode and disable the built in wireless.
Finally good to go!!

Do few packet loss tests at different time of the day before you call connections rock solid, speed is not everything. |

Now that the initial TW adventure is complete - I have this HUGe Ubee device on my shelf. It is one of the worst looking industrial designs I have ever seen.
I am going to purchase a replacement modem.. After looking thru the list of supported modems on the TW web page I see two that are interesting..
1) Motorola SBG 6580
2) Motorola SBG 6141
Any feelings about either of these??

I believe it is the SB6141, which is a modem only. The other is an all in one gateway device.
If you have your own router go for the 6141, it is a great modem.

I believe it is the SB6141, which is a modem only. The other is an all in one gateway device. If you have your own router go for the 6141, it is a great modem. Already ordered it - 80$
Lets see - they were charging me 7/month for thier modem, I will get a 2.99/month credit for my own modem - sounds like a deal to me..
Now lets see how much fun I will have getting it provisioned

How will a credit show up? Wont they just take the modem / wireless rental fee off? Yes - they remove the monthly fee and give a 2.99$ monthly credit for your own device (in theory)
