If you have one phone, the shared plans are a complete rip-off so it would make more sense to compare the individual plans.

What individual plans? Are you talking Verizon or Sprint? Because Verizon is only a share everything now. With the exception of prepaid.

Individual plan with 4gb and a smartphone is $110 a month. That is $10 more than I am paying now with my family plan that covers 2 phones and unlimited data.

Verizon can suck it. I will hold onto my plan for as long as I can. Hell, I will even buy phones 3rd party instead of getting them through verizon so I can hold onto my unlimited data.

Agreed...I've been pricing out other plans and I can see me going over the 2gb limit...even though I've yet to officially do so. I'm like 7 days into my billing cycle and already used over 1.2GB. So I compared the same plan on Verizon with the 4GB limit...$112 (I like being able to do voice mail through the app) per month is Verizon WITHOUT taxes. I pay $79/mo WITHOUT taxes to Sprint. That's a solid chunk of change per month.

The drawback is, the Sprint network blows donkey nut compared to the others in my area. *sigh*...no win situation for me.

I'm in the same boat. Both AT&T and Verizon would be over 60$ a month more for what I get on Sprint (3 lines), and that's not counting any overage that might occur. Sprint is unlimited data for the phones, and we don't tether. The coverage and speeds might not be the greatest, but I can't justify the added expense on those two things. The phones do what they need to do just fine.
